2018 Men's Hoops Coaching Carousel

I was going to say that I was surprised that they would take Dooley…again. Then I stopped and thought about what I was saying.

I am hoping it will be Lutz for Bobby’s sake, but I want Dooley for me. It will be easy to keep hating on EZU if Bobby is not there.

Same here, Nugget. I will always pull for Bobby no matter what, but damn I do loathe EZU…

I wouldn’t wish ECU basketball on anyone. IMO only an idiot takes that job.

Or someone desperate to get back into the college coaching ranks…Lutz might be that desperate.

Technically this would be the first posting in the 2019 Coaching Carousel with Fran Dunphy supposed leading Temple through next season, but since we’re still in the 2018 cycle, will place it here.

clt says the EZU MBB job should come with a struggle bus.

That’s bullshit to fire him as the head basketball coach and give him a shit job hoping he’ll quit so you don’t have to pay him. Not to mention he’s an alum and all time winningest coach.

Thought Rhode Island would do the same as Xavier and they still might. Per Jeff Goodman, URI associate head coach David Cox still in the mix to succeed Dan Hurley, as are John Becker of Vermont and Joe Dooley of FGCU. Cox largely responsible for recruiting the top 2018 class in the A-10 that’s rated 30th nationally by 247Sports.

Per Jeff Goodman, FIU has fired Anthony Evans.

Reading that Wyoming assistant Tony Pujol has been hired by North Alabama as the school transitions to D-I as a member of the A-Sun. Got his start in college coaching as an assistant to Houston Fancher at App State before serving on Anthony Grant’s staff at both VCU and Alabama.

Looks like Dooley to ECU, again.

Reading that a couple of recently fired head coaches not staying unemployed very long after landing assistant positions - former Missouri State HC Paul Lusk to Creighton and former Pepperdine HC Marty Wilson to California.

Other former head coaches rumored to be returning to the sidelines as assistants include Dino Gaudio (Wake Forest) to Louisville; Jim Harrick (Georgia) to Cal State Northridge; and Mike Rice (Rutgers) to Pitt.

The Rhode Island search was somewhat bizarre, with URI issuing a statement that they had not offered the position to Rick Pitino after a local news website published a story that the AD had been vetoed by the school president in seeking to hire the disgraced former Louisville coach!

UT Arlington AD has his guy now. We’ll see how long it takes for UTA to become the “Gonzaga” of the Sun Belt!
