2019-20 C-USA Basketball Predictions, Scores, and Rankings

C-USA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - Dec 16th

POTW: Jhivvan Jackson, UTSA

FOTW: Tyson Jackson, Middle Tennessee

Where C-USA stands in the initial NET rankings (December 15th). Looks like another one bid season.

2019-20 NCAA MBB NET RANKINGS
70 UTEP
84 WKU
86 LA Tech
98 North Texas
138 CHARLOTTE
162 ODU
167 FIU
184 Rice
215 UAB
270 UTSA
276 FAU
279 Marshall
283 Middle Tennessee
284 Southern Miss

And as a point of reference, here are the initial Ken Pomeroy rankings:

2020 POMEROY RATINGS
86 WKU
110 LA Tech
123 UAB
130 UTEP
143 UTSA
145 ODU
167 Middle Tennessee
177 FAU
185 North Texas
187 Rice
195 Marshall
204 FIU
229 Southern Miss
263 CHARLOTTE

Can someone explain the disparity in our rankings between the two? Looks like we have by far the biggest difference of anyone.

Those are the initial KenPom rankings, in the current rankings we are at 173.

Dang we won and moved back 35 spots? That stinks

In the NET where we were 138 we moved up to 130. We were in the 190 range in KenPom coming into the game and rose to 173. KenPom starts every team at where they ended last season basically so that has been a little bit of an anchor for our rating on KenPom.

The reason I reposted the initial Kenpom rankings is that they were there on day one of the season, whereas the NET made its debut two days ago. NCAA did learn that lesson after posting too early last year and causing a number of “meltdowns” in the process!

Anyway, with the NET replacing the RPI, basically the only thing that matters. And once again, C-USA looking at one participant in the Big Dance.

Our quadrant performance so far looks as so…

Georgia St and App St are our Q2 games. They may both be Q3 games by the end of the season, but this actually points to us beating the teams we should, splitting those Q3 50/50 games, and losing more Q2 games than we win. Seems pretty damn spot on when you look at it through this lens.

Oddly enough, this is ESPN’s way toI early prediction against the hot up and coming UTEP…

Just my opinion, but hopefully this season will be the end of the Bonus Play experiment. Only person who has benefitted from that is consultant Mark Adams.

How quickly our expectations rise, and that’s fair enough, but every time I see these NET rankings I am reminded how little I expected us to make a 100+ spot jump from last season. We’re damn near respectable territory now guys. With some of the disappointing losses, I don;t think we’re relishing this YOY jump we’re seeing enough.

Yeah, losing to asheville, unc-tweetsie, and ezu kinda tempered my “relishing” a bit.

Me too. But there is certainly room for improvement and I’m thinking we’ll see some.

Everything about this season is surprising so far. I am amazed that we are #131 in the NET rankings, especially with a 6-5 record. I would have said preseason that the five games we have lost were the ones we were most likely to win. Did not expect us to beat Davidson, and certainly not like we owned them. I did not think this team was going to be so incapable of scoring. We seem to have some pieces on offense, but they have not come together yet.

If we can start to slash the ball from the perimeter towards the basket we might be able to add enough points to win some games. I hope they surprise me.

Latest NET rankings (as of 12-29). Biggest movement by Rice, which dropped 49 spots!
