2022 Week 4 Charlotte @ South Carolina 7:30 PM ESPNU

On to UTEP

no way this happened

If im a competitor on the team, I would be pretty pissed at our coach wanting to celebrate for being down 14-20 against a non ranked team. Especially after seeing temas like marshall and app and ODU win games they did just a few weeks ago.

100% agree…been saying this for years.

Embarrassing, are we so overmatched against a mediocre SEC team that keeping it within six means celebrating?

The worse alternative is that someone punched him at the half and he’s covering. Either option is poor.

I have bruises all over from celebrating having successfully eaten breakfast this morning.

If I am honest though…I was kinda celebrating at that point too.

Went to the game last night. Sorry for writing a book. Could write MUCH more. Charlotte crowd was pretty solid. Last night was all about perspective for me. We are not in the same stratosphere as South Carolina and I am not talking about football on the field. We went inside their indoor practice facility before the game. My jaw dropped. I am going to use the word amazing a lot here. It was amazing. I mean massive and NICE. I thought about where we practice compared to that and just laughed.

The tailgate atmosphere was massive, welcoming (for the most part) and respectful. We HAVE to use our open space better for tailgating. The area around the Hayes is wasted by us. The build up walking into the stadium was so energizing. Wall to wall tailgates for miles. I know they have a different set up around the stadium than us BUT there are easy improvements we can make.

The stadium and atmosphere was again amazing. I have not ever seen anything quite like it. I am sure there are schools that do it better but I haven’t seen it. I have gone to many away games including Tennessee, Marshall, APP and Clemson and I thought South Carolina blew them out of the water. I felt like I was at a concert, Vegas show and football game all in one.

On to the football… We have poor fundamentals and size. I did not see a lack of heart last night. I did against William and Mary. I hate to say this because I absolutely love the guy but Healy is in over his head. I hope he proves me wrong. Their lineman were a good 4 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier and that is just to the eye. I have no clue on actual measurements. We have some guys (including Reynolds) that gutted us into the first half. Reynolds was noticeably limping off the field in the second quarter well before he was pulled. I hope he is OK. There is absolutely no way we should not be competitive in any CUSA game remaining with Reynolds. That will be the true measuring stick of our program in my eyes. The season starts on Saturday and that game now looks very TOUGH.

We have to expand our stadium. It was painfully obvious last night. No wonder we can’t recruit. We are stepping into the AAC next season. I understand that those programs aren’t $EC but they are a lot closer than we are. We need to build a football culture, where the games are a can’t miss. For a few of us that is the case now but not enough of us. Winning will help (someday) but it is more than that. I don’t believe for one second that winning cures everything but it does help.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet many Niners yesterday. You all are my brothers and sisters. We represented well and are building a foundation but it is time to grow it. I wish that Healy was the guy to do that. From a public relations point he is but from a football point, I have very serious doubts. I hope he proves me wrong the rest of the season. Go Niners!

Absolutely agree with the culture part. I know the team and AD needs to step up their game. We need to use our campus better and we need to win. With that said our fan base needs to step up too. We had a great time.

The stadium expansion will be huge. Just the environment and show were exceptional! We need green lights.

Ambulance blew a tire last night at midnight so ride home sucked. Ambulance is sitting at a QT north of Columbia. Have to go get a tire for it tomorrow.

The bad part is that with only a modicum of better play for the rest of the season…Healy will be back.

Exactly. This x 100

If playing a bit better means he wins 6 games from Here on out yeah. If we lose most of the games and finish with 1-3 wins I think he’s gone. If we lose next week, I think he could be let go mid season.

I don’t see a benefit for us to let a coach go mid-season. We aren’t a deep pocketed program trying to get ahead of the pack to hire a big name coach. I know it feels good for the fanbase for a few days but that’s about it.

Just announce the date for stadium expansion to begin. That will inject some excitement into our fan base.

Yes, we need some excitement.

I think it really is dependent on team dynamics. I’m usually of the same thoughts in terms of midseason firings, but if rumors are true that the locker room has issues and I’ve heard recruits at the Maryland game left early laughing at us - those things make me think letting him go early is possible. It also gets us into hiring process ahead of other schools. We were ready to pay Mike Houston 1 mil, we will have money to get someone with a track record of success if that’s what they target.

It seems to me we have Defensive players in position to make tackles the majority of the time, but When you can’t wrap them up nothing good happens. Is it player size differential, athleticism, technique, etc.? Probably most of the above but without the Jimmys and Joes no defensive schemes will work. I feel so bad for Reynolds . He’s one hellava quarterback.
Just one thought! Maybe we could strike a deal with the Panthers. Part time consultant exchange, our offensive coordinator for their lead defensive mind.

Al Wallace in the postgame show questioned this team’s desire to tackle which I found interesting. He said you can teach technique but ultimately it comes down to ā€œwant toā€.
