Poor reffing aside, we got out hustled tonight. Memphis got so many more possessions by getting rebounds and loose balls. We just didnāt play well, and memphis played better than they have recently.
At the end of the season, this will be considered a good loss. This will light a fire for a final run. Officiating sucked!
Tough game. Everything about Memphis State is still trash. On to the next one.
It was folkes
By far the worst officiating ive seen. Completely demoralized our guys. That combined with mempiss deciding to wake up made for a bad night. On to the next, beat tulsa!!
I was very disappointed in the game last night. The officiating was horrible. Memphis played well, which I expected, but we didnāt. We shot the lights out in the first half and that was the only reason we were in the game at halftime. Iāve noticed a trend over the last several games and it is a lack of rebounding. Igor has done everything he can to rebound the ball, but we are getting beat on the glass. You wouldnāt think that we are typically a bigger team than others in the front court. Our guards arenāt helping the bigs rebound.
I truly put all the blame for the disappointment and heartache I feel on Fearne. After years of expecting to lose he gave me hope. When we finally played like I expected us to all season it hurt. Memphis was the more athletic and aggressive team and it showed last night. We couldāve won, if not for getting our butts kicked on the boards.
The rebounding has been dreadful for several games in a row. Fortunately those opponents were a lot less talented than Memphis so we got away with it.
Free throw shooting also hurt us. There was a point in second half when game was close and we missed back to bak front ends of 1 and 1s
Agreed on most points said here, BUT we were out hustled last night and that is supposed to be Fearneās calling card. Almost doubled on the boards like others have pointed out, 38-20, but worse in my eyes is letting them get 14 offensive rebounds to our 4, and we were the bigger team. I think the announcer said, after getting their ass kicked by SMU on the boards last weekend, all Hardaway did this week with the team was work on boxing out. It worked, maybe we should do the same this week before Tulsa. Also, refās and a couple of calls donāt cause a 18 pt beatdown. Bad day to have a bad day. Move on to Tulsa
We canāt win every game. Iām going to stop short of ācalling somebody outā. They made adjustments to how they have been playing and won. It happens every day in college basketball. Time to move on to Tulsa and make our own adjsutments.
We got out a$$ kicked. It happens. We all knew Memphis was capable of that notwithstanding how theyāve been playing lately. Time to move on and see how the team responds. The response is what Iām most interested in.
We did get outhustled on the boatds though and there is no excuse for that
Yeah, I wonder why we didnāt āplay wellā and you canāt just āput asideā poor officiating when it is on the level it was in this game. I mean, our best player was basically taken out of the game by 2 terrible calls. This had a MAJOR impact on our game/gameplan.
Our guys were terrible at positioning for rebounds opposed to being āout-hustledā. I noticed more energy for boards in the start of the second half, but our guys simply could not read the ball, leading to Memphis getting the ball. Also need to get structured in that situation. Rather than a 4 guy mosh pit thatās tipped out to Memphis for an open Memphis 3, box your guy out and let the ball come to you.
The officiating thing is an issue because it takes the players out of their pregame mindset, and unlike the guy guarding you, is not something you can beat. Thatās why it bugs me.
We did get our asses kicked. But before that, we actually played pretty well and made some shots, until our mental edge and effort collapsed. It is REALLY REALLY hard to play 5v8. And I feel like our guys are being asked to a little too often. You could hear the frustration in the subtext of Fearneās comments too. He was not happy about it.
That said, our effort on the boards has been subpar for several games now, and bad refs or not, thatās gonna cost us games if we donāt fix it ASAP. Could also tell Fearne was pissed about that too.
Like others have said - last night was Memphisā gut check moment. Would they play hard for Penny or had he lost them? They answered that.
Now Fearne has to rally the troops in a similar way. Tulsa will be all about trying to stick it to us after the post game fights the last 2 games. Can Fearne get us to come out and play the smart, disciplined game we will need to play to get the W? We have to box out, not turn the ball over, and not fall for the head games Tulsa is going to try. This game really sets the tone for the final stretch of the regular season.
We lost! They outplayed us in all facets! The refs were not good but it is not why we lost this game!
On to TULSA! We need to root for FAU tonight over SMU! Helps with potential tiebreaker scenarios!
Not an unexpected result. Memphis is much better at home than on the road, kinda like us. We can beat Memphis, they were at home home and played with tons of energy. Refs let them bang and they killed us on the boards. T on Patterson was BS. Donāt know about the bench T, somebody coulda called a ref a cocksucker, who knows.
The Tulsa game was the one I thought was one we could get on the road, that hasnāt changed. I like the way JT and Braswell are starting to look for their shots and shoot it with confidence, I think that bodes well for the rest of the year.
Prepare for more poor officiating at Tulsa. We will have to overcome that when it happens.
Not unexpected, but a disappointing loss nonetheless, on so many levels. Gotta get ready for Tulsaā¦simple as that. Canāt dwell on this game and that seems to be something theyāve been pretty good at doing this season.
Actually, I expect this at Tulsa as wellā¦Iām willing to bet the refs will be made aware of how the last 2 games with them have gone and will look to call it ātightā from the outset. I bet at least one of our main guys will be in foul trouble early.
