What was better, a 3-8 team that also lost to an FCS team, had one of the worst defenses not only of the year, but possibly in the last 25 years with a coach that had a less than desirable sideline demeanor orā¦
A 2-9 team that also beat an FCS team that had one of the worst offenses I have ever seen in a college football era where offense is king and a coach that had a less than desirable sideline appearance.
I would like us to be more competitive even when we lose. Many of the showings like last night have been embarrassments against mediocre teams (GA State, FAU, Navy, Rice, and USF).
FWIW, I agree with your points. I just donāt like any sentiment that we have the answer at QB on our bench, unless Black is the 2nd coming of Peyton Manningā¦
Itās a personal thing with me after watching years of college football. Freshman QBs do not fair well. Even RS freshmen with a year in the system. They might look good for a game or for a few plays, but over time they get exposed until they learn how to win.
My other comment is in line with @49erAlumnus - the injuries and lack of a QB arenāt the cause of decisions like going for 4rh and 1 at your own 10 with a lead. You have maybe the best punter in the league too. Thatās just stupidity in action.
Jones is better than Ivey and Jones is terrible. Heās horrible. We have no QB. That it took nearly an entire season for our head coach to realize we have no QB, one could easily argue that we have no head coach. The lack of punting and field position awareness for a guy that preaches run the damn ball, further emphasizes that we have no head coach. I think Biff should get the fuck out.
The most concerning statement Biff made was he was going to let Johnson compete in Spring ball to evaluate his chances. Unless Johnsonās Dad is writing big checks that makes no sense to me from what I saw last night and after what I saw all year from our QBs.
Agree with your comments on Black and Freshman QBās in general. On your last comment, IMHO I have to think Biff knew he was not going to be able to stop the USF offence and make it a 13-10 game in the end. He felt he needed to try to hold on to the ball as long as he could to make the game go faster. That isnāt as much of confidence in the run game (although you should be able to get 1yrd) as it was lack of confidence in our D and especially our secondary on stopping them from throwing it all over the yard. Itās common knowledge to not go for it on your 10yrd line, unless you feel you have to. I have to think, I just have to
Before everything turns to off season talk I wanted to give props and a shout out to Hahsaun Wilson.
Kid had a ACL, MCL, PCL injury. I am certain after that injury many were telling him to give up the sport. The rehab that kid went through to get back and then walk on and wait is a testament to what he is about. That character showed itself when on the Johnson fumble he tracked down the defender from 40 yards for the tackle and possible TD in a game that had been over for awhile. I hope the kid gets a schollie and is an asset for us moving forward. If not I will definitely pull for him wherever he lands. Just good to see that every once in awhile in a college game that is all about " me".
QBs need experience and reps. I seriously doubt Johnson has been getting reps with the first team offense. I thought he looked okay outside of the pick he threw. The guy is 6ā4ā and needs to hit the weight room but I donāt see why he couldnāt be on the depth chart next season. Iām praying we bring in a transfer QB that is at least serviceable.
I was about as mad as get over sports last night, especially after the ridiculous call to go for it on our own 10 and then throw deep with a below average QB so I kinda ranted and raved.
After a nights sleep and thinking about things with a clear, sober head, I stand by everything I posted. Every fucking word. We are a clown show. Iāll take Brad Lambert every day and twice on Sunday over this bullshit weāre seeing and listening to. Last night was embarrassing, pure and simple.
You must not remember lambert very well. His recruiting, coaching, adjustments. Last night was terrible but at least we are recruiting at the level we need to win.
Biff has shown a lack of coaching ability with throwing coaches under the bus after a bad game, questionable situational play calling, continuing to cycle in multiple QBs throughout a game, and Im sure theres more than Im listing here.
I think he brought in great talent and generally speaking I think we played at about expectations due to the overhaul of the roster + our biggedt weakness is the most important position in all of sports. I do not buy the injuries excuse on the last game of the seasonā¦I am sure every team in the country is down multiple starters this time of the year.
I think we played much higher competition this year. The team this year is squarely ahead of our team last year despite a DRAMATIC change in quality of QB play. My biggest gripe with thw team this year is I didnt see much improvement from beginning of season to end of season. I dont think our coaches got any better, or offense or defense. All around it seems we are the same team today than we were against SC State.
