Itās definitely broken but NCAA has no one to blame but themselves. Sure, Bennett could have hired a GM to handle things like NIL, transfer portal, etc but he didnāt. Maybe Sanchez will. Heck, if tiny St. Bonaventure can do it, no reason UVA canāt. Anyway, if Sanchez doesnāt get it done during this season, the Cavs will certainly have a number of applicants to choose from, though they wonāt be getting Hurley - unless itās the other one!
From Matt Norlander - from whom those of us who watched the TB press conference learned - has seen the Dave Matthews Band in concert over 100 times!
Dude is rich and doesnāt want to deal with bullshit that has became college sports. Itās not hard to figure. He probably wanted to take care of Sanchez too.
Btw, fuck Sanchez
Waiting for our AD to take a victory lap on this one, itās comingā¦ā¦.
I foresee a long season of delicious schadenfreude for Niner fans.
Sanchez was a POS for leaving his team high and dry at the last minute last year. And now we see his mentor Bennett is a POS as well.
What kind of coach bails on their team like this?
Complete embarrassment as a man and a coach.
Seriously. You donāt like how things are going in basketball then suck it up and finish out the year with the men you made a commitment to.
Bennet is a fuc*** quitter just like his little bitch Sanchez.
I hate we were ever associated with Sanchez and I would stay away from anyone from the Bennett coaching tree if I was running a program.
The bitch factor is strong in that tree.
Gassman tell me how you really feel
A couple of biggies come to mind:
ā¢ Dean Smith - Oct 1997
ā¢ Jim Calhoun - Sept 2012
And latter had said publicly he was going to do it:
And then more recently there was Mark Turgeon who waited until the season had already started before resigning in Dec 2021. That would factor largely into Jahmir Youngās decision to transfer to Maryland.
My favorite part of the Bennett speech was his list of all the items regarding money that need to be capped or reduced, but he failed to mention Coaches salaries and contract guaranteeās, i guess he just ran out of time in the press conference to add those items, .
You left out the part about Bennett saying that the players deserve to get paid and heās aware college athletics is moving to a professional model. Also the cap is built into the House settlement, so thatās going to happen anyway.
Yep, timing definitely sucks but not unprecedented, even in the ACC re: Dean Smith almost 30 years ago. If I were a player, donāt think Iād be too happy if the head honcho wasnāt 100% invested. Rather the coach leave before the season begins than be like Mark Turgeon and bail just weeks into OOC play.
DeCourcy gives his 2 cents:
They were assholes too. You should complete the season if you recruited players in.
F Bennet and Sanchez.
I should not post when Iām emotional but I stand by my point.
I donāt get a coach leaving before the season unless there is a health issue or legal issue.
We teach our kids that if they join a team they MUST finish the season no matter how it goes.
Why is that lesson not applying to our college coaches?
Each season is supposed to be a journey together with the team and college coaches are supposed to be developers of young men and women. It should be in the ethos that you finish what you start and then if you want to leave you do it at season end.
Itās a bad look.
And itās dirty since the players are stuck for at least a semester and most likely the season.
I know we live in an employment at will country and they have the freedom to leave just like anyone.
But it speaks volumes (to me at least) when a coach bails on their team for no COMPELLING reason.
I donāt like it and I think itās BS.
Iām not close enough to the situation to know what really happened but some people that know said itās not much of a surprise and was kinda expected.
As far as a compelling reason, NIL and the transfer portal would be enuff for me to take my millions and go to the golf course
This UVA story appears to be as ārealā as the one I posted about Duke U opening a satellite campus in Las Vegas.
