It’s great to throw hard and have command, but I will take a Maddox type pitcher over a Smoltz any time. Glavine (you can tell how old I am) was a good mix of the two but it is difficult to develop the control when you have been simply overpowering the opposition. Good hitters can hit a 90-95 mph fastball if you have to groove it and can’t place it.
Thanks for posting this. So basically two separate double elimination brackets that lead to a winners game with each bracket winner.
If you come out of the early losers bracket you end up playing a lot of ball.
Totally disagree with this respectively. When the umps made Maddox actually throw strikes in the playoffs he was in trouble. Smoltz was a bad man and win in the playoffs with just overpowering stuff.
Maddox and Glavine would start off an inch off the plate and expand the heck out of it if the umps allowed, as they should have
