My issue isn’t with the quality of the player, it’s the ridiculous difference in hype. He is the same player he was at Tulane where he got minimal fanfare, and now he’s the second coming.

That’s what irks me. If he was that damn good of a player at Tulane then why wasn’t he receiving that much hype there?

Answer: he wasn’t even a 3rd team all conference player for the American this past season (we had a 2nd and a 3rd team player).

(he won the sportsmanship award)

The hype is because he is going to Duke, plain and simple.

On that basis Cye and Igor would instantly become Lebron and Kobe if they transferred to Duke.

If Tulane had lived up to preseason expectations, then he may have been all AAC. Finishing 5-13 in league play wasn’t going to land any more than Kevin Cross as all conference.

Anyway, don’t disagree that the Duke landing has escalated the hype.

Are we the poster boys for program depletion?

NCAA Removes Cap on Official Recruiting Visits in Basketball to Deal With Unlimited Transfers

The NCAA has approved a waiver that will allow men’s and women’s basketball programs to pay for unlimited official recruiting visits to help teams deals with roster depletion caused by transfers, according to a memo obtained by The Associated Press

Not really. Not hardly actually. We just feel more desperate for our players.
Several programs have lost more players and more “value”. We also had less to lose to begin with.

We haven’t even lost half as many as Duke or Kentucky. Louisville lost their entire team.

Louisville needed to lose their entire team though

See that Wake just signed an ex-Card who originally committed to Memphis before flipping to UofL. Stats similar to Caleb Mills so may have made a difference for the Tigers last season after Mills was lost to career ending injury. But then, who knows what Penny would have done!

Wish someone in the industry would explain how foreign players like Osobor are getting this money since they are ineligible per visa restrictions to receive it while in the US. (Definitely not getting paid under the table like in the old days with everything being announced publicly!)

And another thing - read that a BYU player had entered the portal today - almost 2 weeks after the portal supposedly closed!

It was said before that they only have to say they intend to enter before the deadline. Said there would be some lag entries.

Yep, but what I read gave the impression that BYU’s Noah Waterman entered today, not that he had done so prior to May 1 and just now being announced. Guess it could have been a poorly worded communication.

If he actually earns that, it’s basically the same money as NBA league minimum for a player with 3 years of service.

And he’s gonna make that for FAR less work. 30ish games vs 82ish games and many more months and tons of travel.

Unreal.

Does he get 30 days after the coaching change at BYU? Seems like there is a time period after a coach leaves when players can enter but I’m not sure how long that is.

That’s right! Too many things to keep up with. Pope left BYU on April 12th.

Thanks!!!

One time Niner target - class of 2022:

Wish the committed vs uncommitted numbers were broken down by division but either way, still a lot of players looking for a new team.
