Just checked the stats for this game. App shot just 35% from the field. Elon shot 52%. App shot 11 for 23 from the line, 48%. They were out-rebounded 45 to 25!! Points in the paint Elon 46, App 16.
App got killed inside and shot horribly. Now whether Elon is that good, particularly inside, I don’t know.
The ironic thing is everyone here is yelling about playing interior offense. And it’s evidently possible to be a 2-point shot dominant high-scoring team
I had figured 8-5 or 7-6 before the season started. So far the loss to Davidson is only one I’ve gotten wrong.
Basically it was one loss at home (Utah State), winless on the road, and either 1-1 or 0-2 in Orlando. Right now I think we’ll split the MTE later this week, so 7-6 looking about right.
The problem is we used to balance the WTF losses with big wins and tournament runs. Now the WTF losses are not really n”WTF losses because we aren’t good. In fact when a team, any team, loses to us it’s a wtf loss for them.
The last couple of games I haven’t been able to watch closely, but I swear when I zero in on it, the players look like they’re playing for a contract next year, not anything remotely that looks like team ball. Maybe I’ve just watched at the wrong times or maybe it’s just NWA rubbing off on me…
I had thought we’d be 5-3 at this point if we played Illinois State and Furman in the tournament or 4-4 if Richmond instead of the Palladins. Guessed wrong about Davidson.
God bless you all for following the basketball program. I use to live and die by every game. Didn’t even know we played today until now. Come to peace with not caring.
Dinkins is on our bench. Very similar situation as Melvin Watkins who coached probably our 2 best teams outside of Lee Rose.
This is from Google;
Before joining Charlotte, Dinkins had a highly successful high school coaching career at Carmel Christian School and Northside Christian Academy from 2010-18. He compiled a 210-30 record with four state championships and eight state title game appearances, coaching 22 players who went on to play college basketball.
