2026 Charlotte 49er Football 🏈

Agreed on that front. No chance I expect us to win any game, however Citadel is a very bad FCS team. We need to dismantle them

It’s pretty rare that we ever beat anyone convincingly (last one I remember is EZU 2024) and we have a history of struggling against FCS teams. I hope we beat Citadel by a ton but knowing our history I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s close.

My overall expectation for Division 1 football in 2026 is:

  1. Because of the double attrition this year, the separation between the top of P4 and the bottom of P4 will increase dramatically, while the separation between the bottom of P4 and G5 will also increase dramatically. Similarly, the separation between G5 and FCS will grow, as will the separation between FCS and Division II. There will be far fewer upsets between levels.
  2. Military schools, in general, may be less affected than other schools. If I am right, Army and Navy will both tend to move higher in AAC standings, while Citadel should move higher in FCS.

My expectation for Charlotte is that, despite the double attrition, they will actually improve:

  1. Last year, their initial batch of players from the portal was not good, while the last group they took, the ones they took after Spring Camp, was very solid. I hope that they now have their systems in place, and they chose more wisely this year.
  2. Last year, they returned about 50 players, but many were walkons, and the coaches had no idea what any of them could do, and few of them were familiar with how Albin runs things. This year they return 50 players, all of whom are familiar with how Albin runs things, and all of whom Albin was willing to have return
  3. Last year there were almost no Freshmen to contribute (Womack and Doss). This year the Freshman class actually exists, and appears to have a number of players who will contribute immediately.
  4. With the exception of Nardo and Mattix, the coaches from last year all return, and by now are used to working with each other. They tried things last year, and some worked, but some did not. This year I expect them to change things that didn’t work.

None of the above things are world-altering changes, but all should be incremental improvements. If Charlotte, in fact, improves, while the rest of the AAC, on average, goes in the opposite direction, Charlotte should be more competitive in conference games, and I hope, will win some. I think Citadel will be somewhat more competitive in FCS, but if Charlotte doesn’t beat Citadel in a convincing way, it will be definitely be a great disappointment, and very discouraging.

As for whether Charlotte will be the second worst FBS team, I certainly hope not, but until the games are played, we’ll never know.

Yea if we struggle with them that second worst team in FBS becomes a possibility.

Does the Citadel run the option? If so, that could prove challenging or at least may keep the game close going into 4th qtr where anything can happen.

In general we are going to have improve on running the ball and stopping the run to Win some games this year.

Someone really likes our Bryant transfer WR. If he is this good, coupled with the App transfer (Barnes), we should have a solid pair of WRs.

Not a bad deal.

They play in the same stadium, right? Tight turnaround for the grounds crew.

If we have someone who can sling it!! Haven’t had that since CR

Charlotte

CFN Spring Charlotte Win Total: 2.5
CFN Charlotte Projected Record: 2-10
Almost Certain Wins: Citadel
Likely Losses: East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, at Ole Miss, at North Texas, Tulane
50/50 Games: at App State, Louisiana, at Temple, at Tulsa, at UAB
2025: Total 4.5 | Prediction 2-10 | Record 1-11
2024: Total 3.5 | Prediction 2-10 | Record 5-7

How do they come up with 2.5 wins when there is a near guaranteed W vs Citadel and they call 5 other games 50-50?

That’s 3.5 wins even by my rather mediocre mathematical abilities.

Also, if we win less than 5, I will be disappointed.

Purdie could sling it but his weakness was a weak grip that led to fumbles and he couldn’t scramble.

Gonzales appears to have it all from what little I have seen. White has a huge upside as well. I think our QB position is finally our strength. We will see though won’t we! 6-6 is my bet. But I am the eternal optimist.

What makes it 2.5? is the At… majority of those games are on the road.

Two of those games App and Louisiana seem like a stretch to be on that list.

App beat us at every position last year on the field by a wide margin. Louisiana is a very good program that always has good players & coaches.

App seems to be in a bit of disarray and I think the talent will be similar. UL is solid but 6-6 isn’t 9-3

App also lost a bunch of guys and portal was not great. Team and coaches seem on different pages and fans do not like the new coach

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (Louisiana-Lafayette) football team finished the 2025 season with a 6-7 overall record (5-3 Sun Belt), culminating in a 20-13 loss to Delaware in the 68 Ventures Bowl.Following the conclusion of the season, the team experienced over 10 notable personnel losses through graduations and the NCAA transfer portal. The primary departures included:Key Transfer Portal Departures:Walker Howard (QB): The former Lafayette native and St. Thomas More standout entered the transfer portal in January 2026 and committed to Ole Miss.Bill Davis (RB): The Cajuns’ leading rusher transferred to Virginia Tech.Zylan Perry (RB): The starting running back transferred to Cincinnati.Bryant Williams (OL): A 6-foot-7, 315-pound offensive lineman.Trey Fite (LB): Entered the transfer portal as a defensive depth piece.Princeton Malbrue (LB): Transferred out of the program.Key Graduations & Departures:Jaden Duggar: Departed the program due to graduation.Fitzgerald West (DT): Left via the transfer portal.Carter Milliron (LS): Hit the transfer portal.

They lost the heart of their offense from last year’s 6-7 team.

They did do well in hs recruiting. Portal class is solid, but not amazing

They got a decent QB. The rest of what he said is true.

He did have some good games in sec and appears to be athletic
