Man, we’re in first place all by ourselves.

I really hope this doesn’t happen.

Which prediction is worse?

Niners 1-11 or EZU 11-1?

Ecu 11-1

I’d say ours. If we’re talking best case we ought to be able to get at least (1) against a FBS team. ECU did win a lot of games last year, I wouldn’t have their ceiling that high but it’s more debatable than us at (1).

We’ve earned much of the disrespect we’ve gotten this year but that seems a bit much.

I think both are bad predictions

I see no reason to pay any attention to any forecast this year. We’ll get more as the summer progresses, and I expect all the rest to look very similar. Charlotte has made a conscious decision to not let anyone know which players might even start, much less touting any players as being actually good, so who would pick Charlotte to win any games? It’s a deliberate choice, and I view it as a tactical one; they want the foes to have no idea what to expect, and they want the team see all the negative picks, and get its backbone up, determined to disprove all the negativity. Will it work? IDK.

FWIW, the site below is the most accurate projection on Charlotte’s team for the fall that I can find. It isn’t even close (especially on the line), and lists a lot of players who are long gone, and misses at least one player who is back, but at least it tries. Other sites I find are mostly just blank. The reason I post the ā€œbestā€ one is because this is the kind of information that the people who make these projections have available.

Now that you’ve seen the ā€œbestā€ information available, is anyone surprised when Charlotte gets picked 1-11? As for me, I honestly have no idea what to expect.

The Phil Steele book is usually decent, especially in terms of depth charts since they interview the staff to put it together. Their record predictions are so-so.

This website used to track prediction accuracy of all the prognosticators they could find, on a year by year basis, and over longer periods. For many years, Steele was, by far and away, the leader, and no one came close. I’m not sure about recent years. Sadly, the links all seem to be dead, and it doesn’t appear to have been maintained in the last year. It was a great site for evaluating predictors, so I hope that it wakes up again, and they fix all the links.

Logic to keep opposition in the dark about the team doesn’t make sense. After the first game, most everything is in the open for all to see. So, what is the big deal to keep everything under wrap for one game that in most cases is not very meaningful other than a win/loss.

Poggi certainly enjoyed keeping things in the dark, especially as concerned the starting QB. That ā€œmind gameā€ really irritated Bobby Rosinski during the weekly Coach’s Thursday check-in on what was then ESPN 730 and, as a listener, did come across as quite cringy. No one was happier than Bobby when Biff got canned!

I agree but our last 2 coaches both like doing it so clearly it’s not just a specific coach thing. Teams have also cancelled spring games because of it so there has to be some sort of mindset in current coaches on this

That type of gamesmanship certainly hasn’t translated to winning as far as the Niners are concerned.

Repeat what run49er posted… We may hide something from Citadel, wow! What kind of mindset is that. We then have Old Miss, App St. and Louisiana before a conference game with Memphis. What would you be hiding that wasn’t already exposed by that time. What could possibly be the mindset in this logic.

All coaches are coy whey they are talking about game plans and players starting days before a game. Bobby is experienced enough to understand this. I am sure Biff didn’t want to give a tip to the opposing team on who was going to be QB because they had to prepare for 2 completely different offences. He and the OC had to decide which crappy QB gave them the best chance. At the end of the year, we were starting a QB (Purdie) that 6 months before was attending his HS prom. We have not had a true FBS QB since Reynolds. Purdie was the best since CR, but his plan was to always to redshirted. I think he is going to do well at Liberty

Poggi’s unprofessional behavior during those weekly ESPN 730 check-ins went beyond the silliness of refusing to announce a starting QB. He was often tardy so a scheduled 15 minute segment was usually shorter. Add in the often inane gameday halftime comments etc and it was easy to understand Rosinski’s frustration with having dealt with that crap for 2 years.

We should not hide anything against the Citadel. We just need to go out there and get to 1-0 and do our best to stay healthy!

Citadel news!

The Citadel and coach Maurice Drayton recently picked up a commitment from DK McGruder, who played 2 years at Mississippi Gulf CC, Tulane (no action), and most recently Mississippi State (no action). Solid low risk high reward move for the Citadel, especially this late. He is a veteran and he must have sparked the eyes of several coaches in the past to be on Tulane and Miss State, even if he was a walk-on but I am not sure if he was. Former 3 Star!

Trevor Duncan- 6’6 300, 3-star from Knoxville via Tennessee transfers to The Citadel. Nice pickup. Big dude and SEC practice player experience but should get time this year. He was previously going to retire due to injuries but he wants to keep playing. Good for him!

I’m not sure if you think I’m disagreeing with you, I’m not. I find it silly that people are hiding so much stuff that really doesn’t make a big difference.
I’m just pointing out that especially post covid it seems like every coach is treating their program like Guantanamo bay. There are no more spring games anywhere nationwide and coaches seem to want to hide everything. It’s a nationwide trend not just an us thing.
