I would blame technology. Itās just too easy to get full footage of everything, and earlier than ever. Itās been that way for a while but it took a bit for the sentiment amongst the coaches to turn.
I didnāt say we should hide anything from Citadel. I questioned it!
Actually spring games havenāt completely disappeared.
In fairness, no reporter ever reported that āAlbin declined to release the depth chartā, so itās possible that the lack of information is because no one ever asked for it. There seems to be a lack of media interest, and perhaps fan interest, in a depth chart that will change further in the fall. We can expect Phil Steele to ask for a depth chart, so if Albin is willing to release it, some depth information will come out when Phil Steele releases his annual book. On the other hand, if Albin wanted to release it, he didnāt need to wait to be asked; he could simply have issued a press release after Spring Camp, showing the preliminary depth chart.
Edit - In any case, it doesnāt matter why they didnāt release it. My point was simply that, in the absence of knowing who the players will be, there is no way for anyone outside the program to even begin to assess the team, so the odds are strong that all projections made in the off-season will be for Charlotte to go 1-11 or 0-12. These projections are just guesses though, and tell us nothing about how the team will actually do. We need to just accept that it is likely that no one will pick Charlotte to win any FBS games, and not worry too much about it.
This entire conversation is comical. We won 1 game last year, 1, and it was a tight one against that powerhouse Monmouth. We have not earned the right to hide anything from anyone. I can assure you they are not scared.
Yep, that was a very good Monmouth team. Shouldnāt be the case with the Citadel but correct, they wonāt be afraid of us.
Good for fcs. Still should not struggle against an fcs team
Steele must have done his interviews, and most likely knows something about who will play for Charlotte this fall. His book should be out in a few days. From this, we can learn that Gill and Womack will be starters this fall. Here is my current best guess as to the starters:
WR - Eley / Barnes / Boston or Hampton
TE - McGee (+ Wadle or Mauldin when they use 2 TE)
RB - no clue
LT, LG, C, RG, RT - Williams / Sandy / Cruji / Pierre-Nau / Fernandez
QB - Harrell or Gonzales

Edge, DT, NT, DE/OLB - Burgess or Johnson/ perhaps Solomon? / perhaps Irving? / Simpson
LB - Schmitz, Willis
CB, CB, NB, FS, SS - Clinkscales / no clue / Gill / Womack / no clue

P, PK, LS - Long / Bui / Searcy
The right side of our oline worries me
Sales going about as badly as you would expect after going 1-11
Mike Hill saved his job by firing Poggi, so he thought. May have bought him a few months but cost us a lot more.Turns out the AD needed an overhaul, not a new football coach. I get it. We canāt change the past but I still had a lot more hope and confidence with the previous regime. I hope to be eating crow soon! But until thenā¦
ABR - Always be rebuildingā¦
Seems it may be another rough year, maybe the other teams in the AAC slip a bit, but it seems every year in this league there are many very good teams.
The average fan doesnāt buy tickets far in advance unless itās against a big opponent ie Tarholes. Weāll likely sell out family weekend, homecoming, and EZU. The rest will be tricky (Labor Day weekend, Friday night, and Thanksgiving weekend).
Losing the Ole Miss game hurts ticket sales too. Thatās the type of games people buy in advance.
Damnit, I had forgotten about that. Sigh.
Hereās the official announcement for anyone that forgot like me. I remember it happening in December now.
First game should sell out.
Second game is parents weekend that normally sells out.
Memphis is homecoming
ECU will sell out.
Navy will draw even on Thanksgiving weekend. Both Army and Navy draw big crowds and reason we like them in conference for TV.
Tulane on Friday will be only tough game if marketing does any work
I think that Friday game will be dependent upon our record going into the game. If there is a possibility of a bowl game fans will attend. I donāt expect a lot of Tulane fans to be there but I will be there regardless. Go Niners!
