I think the last time we sold out a weeknight home game (Thursday or Friday) was 2019 vs Gardner-Webb (Healyās first year). We almost did vs Tulane a few years ago on Halloween. If weāre in contention for a bowl game, weāll be fine this year.
Letās do some early game by game predictions! Who is up first?
Also, how many wins does Albin need to keep his job for next year?
Ok. I will bite.
Albin needs to go 4-7 minimum.
We win the following: The Citadel, Appy, Louisiana, Temple, UAB, Tulsa
Possibly steal one vs. Memphis or ECU as we historically play them tough.
Tough schedule but to ābe the man, you have to beat the manā. Just look at what Kennesaw State did last year and they were picked last in CUSA.
Surely youāre joking.
If we fired him after two years that would just be dumb.
I think Albinās time table changed with the new AD. You can argue if itās fair or not, but athletic directors like to pick their own coaches. I think Albin has to win 4. My prediction is he ends up with 2 (Citadel, UAB), maybe 3 (Temple). Hope to be wrong!
I think App is way down and should be a win
Normally Iād agree but there is no way we keep him if he repeats the performance from last year. I donāt think he will but that was the least competitive team weāve ever fielded. We as a program and him as a coach have to be at least a little better.
Iād feel better if that App game was at home. Feels like we always play them there.
Yep, only the very first matchup in 2018 was held at JRS.
I agree, sort of. Their coaching appears to be questionable, but there hs recruiting has been solid. I think talent wise, they will be fine. Culture, who knows
Donāt they also have Matt Hasselbeckās kid playing QB?
I stated it after White was hired and I still believe it. His toughest, career defining, decision is going to be deciding what to do with Albin at the end of the year. I hope we win 4 games and keep rolling into next year, but I just donāt see it. I think we will win 2 to 3 games. I would not bet on us to beat App at their place.
Iām coming into the season with the same view. I really hope to be wrong but in addition to the tough strength of the schedule the most winnable games appear to be on the road.
Yeah, I think heās second string at best.
Unless itās a complete dumpster fire this year I would give Albin another year. Unlike the 2 before him, he has a proven track record. He also acts like a professional and does a good job representing the program and university. I do think he needs to improve on the recruiting side, but I think he needs 3 years to see if his method of developing players can work here.
I have no idea what to expect, on either question. All I can say is that in both his prior head coaching positions, the teams improved substantially from the first year to the second, and that he didnāt have a year worse that the prior year at either stop. The additions seem OK, and based on the decent recruiting this summer, Iām guessing that, on official visits, players found a reasonable organization and reasonable morale.
The players they added seem fairly good, especially the Freshmen⦠but of course, the Freshmen are still Freshmen, and they can play roles, but canāt win gamesā¦yet. On the other hand, I have little confidence in the offensive line, or the DBs, and I am just waiting to see them on the field to draw any conclusions.
The closest I can come to answering the questions that I think they will win somewhere between 1 and 6 games. I think that at 1 game, Albin might be gone, and at 6, heāll be secure. In between, I have no idea.
Carl if he wins 6 he is more than secure! ![]()
This. This 100 times over.
If I was White I would absolutely give him 3 years to improve.
No one is going to drag White for giving this experienced a coach an extra year to get things moving in the right direction.
Also I donāt think we want to get a rep for firing experience coaches without giving them enough time.
If Albin gets less or the same time as Poggi even if the record is not as good itās gonna be a travesty.
Our 11 losses last year were by an average of 24 points. Even if the wins donāt come this year, that has to improve.
@Gassman so if Albin went 0-12 this year under a new AD who didnāt bring him in, you think heās 100% safe?
1-23 with it being a crap 1 win. No jokes here mate. Itās possible.
