Albin's Coaching Staff

Also, as for your OC, it would make sense that this coach is still coaching, or just recently finished, either in bowl game or FBS/FCS playoff. Just a hunch.

Any rumors on potential coaches?
What teams left do you think we could be poaching from? Outside of the CFP, Duke and Ole Miss play tonight. Anyone from those teams?

LSU is who we were waiting on for our OC hire.

Very experienced guy:

This is from an old bio when he was OC at USF:

After three highly successful seasons at East Carolina, Todd Fitch was named offensive coordinator/running backs coach at the University of South Florida in January 2010 and switched from running backs to quarterbacks prior to the 2012 season.

In his first season at USF, Fitch led an offense that helped USF to its fifth-straight eight-win season, making it one of just 15 programs nationally and one of 10 in BCS leagues to accomplish the feat. He mentored both Mo Plancher (793) and Demetris Murray (542) to then-career highs in rushing yards.

The offense saw tremendous improvement in year two as USF improved its national ranking in total offense 75 spots from 2010 to 2011, the largest jump of any school in the country. The most dramatic improvement came in the passing game, where USF improved by 85 yards per game. Only two teams saw a greater jump in the passing offense national rankings, as the Bulls improved 59 spots. In addition, the Bulls improved 39 spots in rushing offense, increasing their output by 38 yards per game.

Prior to coming to Tampa, Fitch spent three seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at East Carolina. In his first season, ECU broke a pair of school single-season records for most points (403) and touchdowns scored (52), records that had previously stood for 28 years.

And from his Vandy biography:

Todd Fitch, a 35-year college football veteran, came to West End after a successful stint with head coach Skip Holtz at Louisiana Tech where he helped the Bulldogs to four consecutive postseason victories. The 2020 season is his first with Vanderbilt.

Fitch has helped 16 teams make postseason appearances in his collegiate career.

In 2019, the Louisiana Tech offense played a critical role in the Bulldogs’ 10-3 campaign capped by a shutout win over Miami (Florida) in the Independence Bowl. The unit ranked 36th nationally in scoring offense (32.5 points/game), 37th in total offense (436.8 yards/game) and 32nd in pass offense (268.5 yards/game).

Fitch helped develop J’mar Smith into one of the most productive quarterbacks in Louisiana Tech history. As a senior in 2019, Smith was named Conference USA’s Offensive Player of the Year and first team all-conference after completing 64.3% of his throws (236 of 367) for 2,977 yards, 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Smith finished his Bulldog career with 9,323 passing yards and 51 touchdowns.

In 2017, despite losing three of the nations’ top offensive stars to graduation and the NFL draft, Fitch’s offense helped Louisiana Tech reach the Frisco Bowl where the Bulldogs capped with a convincing 51-10 victory over No. 25-ranked SMU.

In 2016 season, Tech finished with a 9-5 record with three Bulldogs winning top individual C-USA awards including Most Valuable Player (Ryan Higgins), Offensive Player of the Year (Carlos Henderson) and Special Teams Player of the Year (Henderson). The Bulldog offense lead the C-USA in completion percentage (66.7), first downs (358) and passing offense (363.4 ypg) while receivers Trent Taylor and Henderson ranked first (and fifth nationally with 1,803 and 1,535 receiving yards, respectively. Taylor and Henderson are currently with the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos, respectively.

Albin hired a vet who has seen it all. Looks like a quality hire to me.

Long resume with a lot of stops. I’ve seen this resume before and it didn’t end well. Hopefully this ends well. Not sure what would make me over joyed early on. I’ll take the wait and see approach here. I guess it could have been a guy from fcs or like Catawba.

Which resumĆ© is that? Lambert? Wasn’t around for him

Glenn Spencer had a similar resume, did he not? He was pretty decent.

Here’s Glenn’s resume:

Greg brown had a lot of stops at p5 programs, so probably him.

Well, part of an old folks’ psyche is a thing called experience. And out of that experience is a thing called wait and see.
I’ll be ecstatic if we’re bowling this time next year or the next. WHEEEE!

The good news is that he is very experienced. The bad news is that his longest stay at any one location is 3 years. At this point, this will be an entirely new staff, and I don’t expect it to be permanent. I expect at least a coach or two to be replaced each of the next few years, as the new staff works out the kinks and learns to work together. Thus, if Fitch moves on, so be it. In the meantime, he appears to be a good coach and a solid hire, and will do fine for as long as he stays. On the other hand, maybe he’s getting tired of moving every couple of years, and will find that he likes Charlotte and wants to stay.

Great hire. I don’t care how long his stays. Just come in and help Albin get off to a good start. Looks like he knows what he’s doing and doesn’t need time to figure it out. Come help us for a season or two and leave if he wants.

I said on Twitter - this is the first big boy staff for us, where we have experienced coaches on both sides of the ball with legit successful track records. It’s taken us 13 years but maybe we finally figured out the staff side of this.

Seems like a solid and experienced hire. I am not sure what all an offensive analyst does beyond analyze the offense (that was sarcasm.). Agree this is the type of hire you make when you want to hit the ground running. Definitely, not a developmental hire like Miller was. Need to take a harder look at his offensive systems and results.
