Oriahki is starting wherever he goes.
The only benefit I can think of for him coming here (for him, not for us) is that he would have a better opportunity to put up gaudy numbers and increase his draft profile after a disappointing JR season.
Not that heād have a problem anywhere he goes seeing the floor, but I imagine he would have an easier time getting 30 mpg and 15+ ppg here than he would at a program with experienced and productive post players. Here heād be competing with two true freshmen, a JUCO that barely played, and a red shirt freshman. A starting spot is virtually guaranteed.
Anyway, I still donāt see him landing here, but it would be nice.
Maybe/hopefully he likes the coaches and campus better. And, Charlotte girls >>>> Cincy girls.
Oriahki is starting wherever he goes.
You sure? I just looked at his stats and heās never put up stellar numbers. 5, 9.6, and 6.7 ppg are hardly stellar. His rebounding is decent, but again, nothing stellar. FG% is decent, but nothing stellar for a post player.
I didnāt really know much about the guy, but after looking into him in more depth, I donāt understand the fapfest. I mean heād be a great pickup for us because heāll likely give us more than an inexperienced player at the 4/5, but by the way people talked about him, I was expecting a guy that put up 15+ ppg at some point during his time at UConn.
Yes, Iām sure.
10 ppg and 9 rbg, on a National Championship team is strong. On most other teams he might have averaged 15 ppg.
Oriakhi is a rebounding monster⦠look at his game log on ESPN when he did play. He had several games where he grabbed over 15 rebounds, and one game had 21!! And it wasnt against crap competition either. He did damage against ranked teams.
He had 15 points & 17 boards against #2 Michigan St. It goes on like that for the entire season.
The guy is a stud. He will not only start, heāll make any team he plays for better.
The advantage to him coming here is that he could play alongside Braswell and that frontline would be without peer in this league. He would dominate and be a guaranteed 1st team A10 and have a good shot at league MVP.
I realize itās a longshot, but we do have something to offer him.
Agree itās a long shot. Iām really shocked weāre being considered or mentioned with him.
Heād be a huge get but I still wonder if we have a legit shot at him given who heās mentioned as potential schools. I guess it will come down to PT for him and where he can make the biggest impact. That would definitely be here, no doubt.
It appears to me heās already been coached up so I think heād be a good fit.
If Cal can sell him on being Anthony Davis like for the Cats next season and being the leader of a team to win a title, that would be too much to pass up for him.
I would love for him to play for us though, we would have the best front court in the A10 with 2 players that would complement each other very well.
I thought the SEC didnāt allow senior transfers in
Theyāll find a loophole, S.

Here in lies the problem with that. Kentucky is a finalist for the top player in the country, Nerlens Noel, a center.

Alex Oriakhi has listed his preliminary plans for his college visits. The Connecticut transfer will ādefinitely visitā North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky, and Missouri while also listing Xavier, Ohio State, and UNC-Charlotte as potential visits. Outside of the UNC-Charlotte visit, which seems kind of random, the Ohio State visit becomes intriguing with the possibility that Oriakhi could potential step in to replace Sullinger. Clearly, Oriakhi is not quite the same caliber of player that Sullinger was at Ohio State, but he would be a nice bridge to the next dominant big man the Buckeyes want to bring in.
Ah, the dreaded hyphen!

I really didnāt think weād land Clayton or Lester⦠I hope Iām proven wrong again with Oriakhi! Reel him in Major!!

Iāll take the hyphen if it means we are constantly grouped with those programs.

Me too.
If Major were to beat out those schools for this playerā¦that alone would earn him another 2-3yrs around here regardless of what our record is next year.
if we were to beat out those schools, we wouldnāt have to worry about our record next year!!!
