I haven’t followed these players in this type of situation very much. It happened to Rodney White when I was in school there and I know he made the grades and got to play the next season. My question is, when will we know for sure Lester has done what is necessary? After the Spring semester? How often do kids in his situation not make the cut after given that year to do so?
I guess I’m not so excited about Lester when there is no guarantee he’ll do what he needs to do to qualify.
We’ve never had a guy in this situation not qualify. He can get academic help form the AD.
Since we already have an off guard starting next year, I doubt we’re looking too hard at wings.
I mean, we have Ingram, Henry, TWill, Lester, Mayfield, EVN and Benkovic. Front court needs more help, we only have Clark, Clayton and Thorne.
The question isn’t just whether we have players. The question is, can we bring in a better player?
My guess is if they think they found a player that makes the team better, they’ll want to bring that guy in. Regardless of the current depth. If not, they may decide to hold on to a scholarship.
You guys may be comfortable with our returning outside guys but if none of them materialize into decent shooters and Lester bombs we're all gonna wonder what could have been if we had just average shooters. I do agree at this juncture if we do add anything on the perimeter, it needs to be an upgrade at least potentially in the coaches eyes. All that being said, thank God for Ingram without which I think we'd be lucky to be .500. That's how important a subpar piece of the puzzle weighs heavy on success or failure.
The UNCA had become so one dimensional offensively that we were struggling. Ingram made them pay for packing it in. How good would we be if we had a Jobey, Goldwire, Plavich, or Diego ?
I imagine the conference change hasn’t helped much either.
I think it has more to do with having so many Fr and So’s that are playing, not many minutes can be “guaranteed” to incoming guys.
I agree, but during much of the recruiting period our future conference affiliation was up in the air, so it could have made an impact.
I talked with several folks tied to AAU programs, they didn’t feel that A10 to CUSA would hurt us with recruiting. Time will tell, good thing is that this staff is selling Charlote, unlike the last staff.
So now that May is gone it looks like we have five open schollies. So Lester gets one, but then we still have four left! Still finding it hard to believe we have zero commits for 2013.
No seniors next year so our open scollies are for 2 years essentially. The coaching staff have to have something in the works, juco or freshman. I do think being underclassman loaded hurts us this year in recruiting. Unless a guy can shoots 3s

True. I would like to see at least one or two freshman just to keep a steady stream of progression in our program. That and we will need some depth as well.
1 or 2 this year and maybe 2 or 3 the next. Gets tough to recruit with so much young talent not to mention a conference shift. The coaches might not recruit to the conference, but the players know.
Are you speculating or do you know for sure mayfield is gone for good? I have not heard an official announcement but that does not mean anythig.
They won’t make an official announcement just like they never did for Spears.

they will make it official if he is dismissed just like they did for Spears:
