App at Michigan

according to a coworker, the App/Michigan game will be replayed on Fox Sports South tonight.

His Response: Thanks for your kind words. I am proud of Appalachian State. These are exciting times on this campus as our Mountaineers will go for 2 on Friday evening. Let there be no doubt about it, I enjoy Game Days at Appalachian. Perhaps you can join us next year for a football game, my guest, and share your enthusiasm for football at the Rock. We would be honored to have you join us and cheer for the Mountaineers. You will certainly be welcome. Just let me know.

I am confident that UNC Charlotte prepared you well for your
profession. UNCC is a great university and means a great deal to the
UNC System.

Again, I thank you for your kind and encouraging words. On Friday, pull
for the Appalachian State Mountaineers!

Yes – you got it right. Go Niners and Go Apps!

What an exciting ending to the game! I watched that and thought to myself, ā€˜This can only mean good things for Charlotte’s quest for football.’

Did anyone start a congratulatory thread on App’s Boards?

From a Niner fan, who knows something about the issue:

App, please make sure not to follow that up with a loss to mighty Lenoir Rhyne.

Your Pal,

NA

i have to email chancellor peacock, going to boone for a weekend this fall will be tough, under certain circumstances. Doubt I can get a ticket now.

Did I miss something? ID did you email App’s Chancellor?

last year, congratulating him on the back to back, and then appreciating his appreciation of what football can do for a school.

I did, http://forums.delphiforums.com/appstate/messages?msg=18316.1.

Another thing about this game this weekend that I wanted to mention. I was in Winston working outside all day Saturday, so I couldn’t watch the game. My friend text messaged me from the game with the score at halftime. I decided to try to find it on the radio. I found the game very easily on FM radio.

It’s amazing what football can do. Winston is 2 hours away from Boone and you can pick up the game crystal clear on an FM station. I can’t even get the Niners games on 610 in Lake Norman. Hopefully when football comes, we will be able to get our games on a decent FM station that at least can reach the limits of Mecklenburg County.

Mr. B, you’re rightā€¦ā€œReal 49erā€ mentioned to me a while back that having football would be THE key to getting a better radio network for basketball (and football).

I haven’t read this whole thread yet, but I was at the game in person. Me and my wife (an App alum) and her dad and two brothers (Michigan fans) months ago decided to fly up and go to the game. I had been to Ann Arbor one other time to see a homecoming game, and the Big House is as impressive a place as there is on this planet. But I couldn’t believe what I saw happen there. My voice was destroyed for 24 hours afterwards. App’s chancellor was mingling in the crowd where the App fans were sitting, most of us were sitting directly beneath the Michigan scoreboard which kept us shaded all day long. He was stopping and allowing students to wear the massive, diamond-studded National Championship ring he was wearing and take pictures with him. What a cool guy he was.

I will post some pictures when I get home tonight.

If this doesn’t sell Charlotte on getting a football team, then nothing ever will.

I think I remember your band pics from that previous trip.

side note, the only thing Dubois would ever do with any of his rings is demand you kneel and kiss his ring.

Yes Metro, I think I posted those pics on TBR a long time ago. We had amazing seats at that game, like 3rd row near the 30 yard line. Our seats for the App game were a little higher… Section 11, row 95. but like I said, we were in the shade all day… the only place in the entire bowl that had shade. We could actually see the game really well… not really a bad seat in the place. App’s go-ahead field goal was towards us as well as the blocked kick that was run back to seal the win. It was freakin’ pandamonium in our section and surrounding ones.

On my way down the bleachers to leave, my wife pointed out this one little kid, all clad in Michigan gear… he couldn’t have been more than 4 or 5 years old. He was crying his eyes out. His dad was sitting next to him trying to console him… A life-long Wolverine (and extreme crtitic of Lloyd Carr), my father-in-law says to the kid, ā€œGet used to it, this is what it’s like to be a Michigan fan.ā€

I just had a great conversation with a member of the football committee and one of the things that we agreed on is that 9-7-07 might be a watershed moment for football at Charlotte. Those who oppose it use ā€œcostsā€, but there is no way to measure the pride an spirit that is spreading through the App State nation at this moment. You simply can’t quanitify something so emotional. Watching those students carry the goal-posts up to the Chancellor’s house was priceless and seemed spontaneous (I hope it was). When, if ever, has something like that happened at Charlotte? Maybe 1977, but a thirty-year old memory is just that and too little to build on. This committee member seemed to think, and I don’t think I’m putting words in his mouth, that the momentum is palpable now. He felt the meeting last week was productive as well.

Good to hear. Any insight to what was discussed at the last meeting??

No, he didn’t have time to go into detail and I was hesitant to press him, but he said it was productive and he is a big supporter for football at Charlotte. that sounded positive to me. I wish the meeting was today instead of last week. I was hoping someone else who might have attended could say more (unless there was a recent thread I missed about it).

Michigan takes biggest tumble since '89 in AP poll… #5 to unranked

I emailed him today, he emailed back. Told me to pick a game and he would make sure I was able to get a ticket.
