I went on their board yesterday. It is amazing that they think Judy will vote against them joining CUSA and hate her for it, but they have no problem keeping us out of the SC. What App doesn’t get is that the only weapon in their gun is their football attendence. They simply have nothing else. No proximity to anything. No tv. No market. No success in other sports. Nothing.
If we can put 22000 in the stands on saturdays mixed in with 6500 for basketball, 2000 for soccer, 1500 for baseball plus success in the former sports plus room to grow plus our media market, then App is not playing the same game as we are.
Yup - they only see football. When I asked why they average 1500 a game for basketball I was told it’s because no one comes to Boone for basketball games because it’s too far. Yet some how they tell us their location is no big deal and they are really pretty close to everything? ALL they have is football attendance at a stadium that has a track around it ;D
The other thing they don’t get is that without football they wouldn’t have ANY fans. I kept pointing out to them we support everything we have better you guys so what makes you think football will be any different? They also ignore the role lack of football has played for us.
Several of the ECU fans have claimed that ECU was the only school that wanted App. Every other school, Marshall included, was against adding App.
CUSA schools aren’t going to charter flights for non-revenue sports (and probably not even for basketball), which makes a trip to App an overnight event.
Seems to me that ECU could have said we want App and Charlotte knowing that they weren’t going to get both. Kind of like buying a car knowing what you have to have anything else is gravy. They knew they wanted Charlotte - App was hey if we get it great, but not that big a deal.

You’d think having a captive audience of 18,000 kids, they’d be able to get 3000 of them to go to the basketball games.

They actually did do this, but it was Charlotte and Old Dominion.
A good many App fans realize that their attendance figures and on-field success is about winning, and that moving to FBS will result in some losing for them. That’s why I think its great we’re moving past FCS and straight to FBS. We have no record to defend, we have no expectations of certain numbers of wins per year. We have nothing to lose by moving to FBS, where App has a great deal to lose if they don’t win right out of the gate.
NWA it’s funny you should mention that. I was at a cookout shortly after it was announced we were joining CUSA. 3 App grads were there (2 that I’ve known a long time and always happy with FCS. The other one I barely know. He showed up wearing his App tee shirt and brought his App Cornhole boards. But instead of App bean bags to toss, he had light blue bean bags with the tarholes logo on them. I avoided him all evening.
I love how their fans forget that we actually played in CUSA and dominated it in the other big-money making sport. oof.
I’m not much for defending Appy’s and their feelings, but remember how we felt in 2003? When a certain basketball conference left us behind while taking DePaul and South Florida, despite the fact that we were the second best program in CUSA at the time?
That’s probably the same way a lot of these Appy’s feel, justified or not.

They are #unaware of any sport other than football. Just look at their attendence records.
On Appfan one of them was making fun of us playing Campbell - said he had never heard of campbell. I kindly supplied the box score from the previous season of the App/Campbell basketball game and pointed out that he must have been too busy watching the Chapel Hill basketball game to know that Campbell existed. I said perhaps if they supported all their sports the way they support football they could have gotten that invite. He declined to continue the discussion.
That seems to be their MO. They babble on and on making ridiculous accusations and then they disappear as soon as someone points out the outrageous flaws in their logic.
