Biggest Busts in team history

I think Judy Rose was the biggest bust of all times....know wait a minute....were there really ever high expectations?

pretty sure that some volleyball players have bigger busts than judy…:biggrin::smile:

I can’t believe it took 4 pages for this to play.

Agreed. I guess what I'm saying is, as ineffective as Iti was, Reed was even more ineffective. Even if all Iti could do was dunk, that was more effective than Reed's jumpshot. If all Iti could do on defense is block shots, that's still more effective than Reed's non-block and also leaving his man wide open. Reed didn't even start most of the time.

Question. Was Tory Reed the highest ranking high school center coming out of high school? End of discussion.

hahahaha nicely played.

It didn’t. See Lacrosse’s post on Page 1 …

No he wasn’t, Reed played PF. Iti’s highest ranking was only by ONE recruiting service. Somebody else pointed out that Reed was ranked the #2 PF by another recruiting service. 1 vs 2, fairly comparable if you ask me. I’ve pointed out that I know Iti was ranked the #6 and #7 center in the country by another 2 recruiting services. If Reed was ranked the 5th best PF by the other recruiting services, then he would have a lowered combined ranking between the 3 different services than Iti.

I think its more important to consider what the fans expectations of someone are over what recruiting services say. When a player comes in with one service saying that he is the best center in the country and a top ten recruit overall, then that is what will be publicized over and over. Combining the services’ ratings of a player is pointless.

All I’m going to say is, there is only one player at Charlotte who I have not liked. I may be off base in my reasoning, but I think not. He is the only person I’ve ever felt like was truly a cancer to our school.

That said, some players sure weren’t as good as some people thought they would be, but I can’t begrudge anyone who came to our school to play for us.

I wasn’t aware Reed was ranked that high, I wasn’t keeping up with it back then, but still. Iti was the biggest flop in 49er history. Hands down.

Would you be referencing Demon Brown?

No way, I was a big Demon fan and still am.

We’re waiting… you can’t just say something like that and leave us hanging.

Oh, I thought every one knew who I meant…

Curtis Nash.

nash? i remember his mom (supposedly) posting on here.

Nevermind!

As I say on this board about once every 6 months or so…

God Bless Jim McClellan!

Yeah that led to some uh, heated conversations. Good thing the shoutbox wasn't around then.

I agree with that and that’s what I said originally. I believe we as fans over hyped Iti, not the recruiting services.

Combining the services' ratings of a player is pointless.

??? I guess if you want to be naive its pointless. That would be like saying the AP poll was legit if they only had one sports writer creating the poll. To me, if one service has a player ranked #1 among centers and another site doesn’t have that same player in the top 10, that’s an immediate red flag.

they should make him the cheerleader and goldduster coach, attendance would triple

I remember trying to go in the basement of the Mineshaft/Belk Gym for meetings or workout in the old racquetball weight room, and I would see Stacia in tights, and my attention span would be toast the rest of the day.

1/2 the volleyball team looked like the pole vault thread

There have been several list threads about the best players in team history. This is the thread about the most disappointing players in team history. My list is just the guys that have been around in my time.
  1. Michael Beasley
  2. Martin Iti
  3. Carlos Williams
  4. Mitchell Baldwin’s senior year
  5. Deangelo Alexander (overall a good player, but certainly didn’t fill the shoes left by Eddie and Plav)
Your list sucks. Beasley didn’t even play here. How could he be a bust? Neither Mitch or Deangelo were close to being a bust. As a matter of fact Alexander had similar senior stats to Leemire. We all know how this board loves them some Leemire.
