Bring Bobby Back

Bobby has stayed in the game and has found himself helping to coach for some very good coaches. He’s a great in game coach and can build a staff to recruit. I don’t trust any other hire, we are worse as a program right now than East Carolina and App St. Alan Major was the best hire of the last 3 and the next one will most likely fall in line with these 3. Halton should be a top 25 place to play but it won’t be with 25 fans.

Why does this thread exist? Everyone on here knows that Bobby Lutz is not going to be our next coach. Isn’t going to happen. You KNOW that.

Look at the years before with Mullins, who most consider to have been a really good coach, and the years since. Bobby was a victim of his own success and not being able to take that next step forward.

I think that’s exactly the point Mr Bo was making. Lutz’s bad last 6 years was better than Mullins’. Yet people hold Mullins in high regard and there really wasn’t a push for him to be fired.

A lot of seasons we swung for the fences and struck out and had to fill the roster out with juco players and junk. Sometimes it worked out, some seasons it didn’t.

Our recruiting as a whole was very weak after going to the a10, with braswell being one of the lone exceptions that immediately comes to mind.

Proof of argument…we’ve had 3 PGs in a row (Henry, Davis, Young) that were significantly better than any we had in Bobby’s last few seasons in the A10 (Baldwin, Harris, Gerrity, Williams).

I would have loved to see Davis and Young in a Lutz system. Truth be told Henry would have been more like a Basden or Marlon Thomas in a Lutz system. I don’t think he would have played PG.

Ya’ll know that Judy Rose is still associated with the athletic department and maintains. at least on the surface, a good relationship with the current AD. If it comes down to Bobby and someone equally qualified. Hill will not slap Judy in the face by hiring Lutz. He ain’t coming back.

For me I want basketball up and performing at a high level. We will most likely never be able to compete with the upper echelons of college football, but we can with basketball. We just need football to go bowling on most years. 6/7 wins is certainly within our grasp most years with maybe a 9/10 season snuck in there. If football is respectable most years and basketball is winning big most years I am thrilled.

I probably enjoy bball the most as well. But my expectation has always been I want us to strive to be top 3 in our conference, not matter the sport. If we don’t strive for that then we either shouldn’t be in that conference or playing that sport.

If we’re only plugging along at 6 wins in football and constantly losing to App and ECU, the fanbase will never grow much more that what it is currently and make those requesting a 35k stadium look extremely unrealistic. I mean we just had a 5 win football season and it was almost unbearable.

I don’t think Lutz will be or should be coming back as head coach. But I’m still trying to appreciate him at the same time.

Do agree we have to be beating regional comp no matter what. I guess what I’m really saying is we can play on a national stage level in basketball but very very unlikely to hit that relevance in football, no matter what we do. That doesn’t mean football doesn’t matter, or that we shouldn’t strive for amazing success. It’s just reality where the ceiling likely is.

Curious if they hire hire a new coach at what point would you start pulling against the team again? Is it the first bad loss in your eyes or the second? Not making the tournament? Just trying to gauge what level you expect before you start pulling against your so called team again?

Nope but all you people who are pulling for the team to lose can go kicks rocks. TR is the first one but anyone else want a go I will gladly let them know that they are no longer fans but merely disgruntled bandwagon fans.
