One thing to weigh when considering this is that Lutz was here for 15 years (12 as HC) and would like to still be here. Loren Hibbs (baseball) has been our HC for 17 years. Neither coach impresses me as a wilting flower. Both have had their chances to leave. While they may not agree with everything their boss decides they have either found a way to bite their tongues long-term, or they disagree with your perspective.
Again…where does this come from???
That is the one thing we need…is someone who can recruit…but what makes you think Buzz can do it??
His one stop at a school big enough and with the name good enough to recruit…he failed to do so.
Again…are you assuming he can recruit because of his Tarheel ties or do you have a legitimate source of confirmation of his recruiting accumen?
FYI…if it’s the Tarheel angle. The Tarheel angle hasn’t helped him secure Top talent in the past…why do we have so many people assuming he will be able to recruit well here because of it?
I just don’t understand.
And I get more upset and concerned when the assumption on his success in recruiting or building a program here…all comes back to the “Tarheel” effect.
We need someone that can concentrate on selling CHARLOTTE…CHARLOTTE (NOT UNC-CH)…to recruits and this city.
How many UNC-CH (Dean Smith) disciples are out there tearing it up on the coaching circuit? None? I wonder why? Because the Tarheel connection only works in Chapel Hill!!!
Sorry.
Vent over.
Fourthded ;D
I am not sold on Buzz just telling you my thought process. Our administration wants more than a Coach on the floor.
If you want the city of Charlotte’s basketball market and movers and shakers behind you for a possible bigger move down the line then you need the crowd that Buzz runs with from his time with the Bobcats and where he lives and associates and entertains with.
How do you think Johnny Harris would like the hiring of Buzz?
I get what you guys are saying, but I hate Duke as much as UNC-Ch and some of you want Wojo.
Hell, let’s just get completely off the ACC’s jock and take Mullins off Halton’s walls.
I’m not advocating Buzz, but I don’t think he’s as bad as some of you are making out. If you’re waiting for Bob Knight to walk through the door, let me know where you’re waiting so I can bring you a 6 pk- it’s going to be a while.
Only difference is that a potential Wojo hire would be because he may be a good head coach, that got experience from Duke. While Peterson appears to be an ok coach, who can pull UNC-CH fans in for money. Different spin to it.

No disrespect here…
Johnny Harris’ opinion has nothing to do with what we need from a coach. Is Johnny Harris’ opinion going to take our program to a consistent Top 50 level…or is Johnny Harris’ opinion going to build a dedicated and loyal Charlotte fanbase?
We need a coach to sell the program to the community because we are Charlotte and we have an exciting and competitive brand of basketball.
We need an identity of our own.
We need the coach to do the same with recruits.
I could care less if a prospective coach is liked by Johnny Harris or any UNC-CH local. That is not what our decision process should revolve around at all.
GWe need an energetic (charismatic and/or polarizing) coach that can get people (recruits/fans/students/alum/community) excited about CHARLOTTE 49ER BASKETBALL…outside of actual coaching accumen, nothing else matters.

Who got the Final Four to Charlotte?
Who is pushing and will probably get the ACC Conference Championship game to come to Charlotte for their home?
Who helped get the Bobcats back to Charlotte?
Who is running the Bobcats?
Who sits on the Board of the Masters?
Just part of the problem with our situation? Work it for you or against you. Just the rules of the game and I did not make them.

Tell me how you feel about him (or assistant) when the NCAA probation hammer comes down for that.

I understand and I want our own identity and I have hated Chapel Hill probably before a lot of you were born…but…
they are the 900 pound gorilla in this sports town and if it all falls down close to even I want them own my side when we strive to be something more than we are now.

Did Buzz Peterson do all of that? Otherwise…I’m still not convinced.
Local influential Charlotte Tarheels are still going to choose to empty their pockets to support UNC-CH…not UNC Charlotte and it’s very naive to assume otherwise.
I assume Johnny Harris and all of the local UNC-CH sports movers and shakers are all currently funding Appalachian State at the same level they would support Buzz if he were here.
So…look it up.
How much bling is Buzz’ Tarheel connections bringing in to App St???

Come on HP. You know how the game is played. If they can go see a Panthers game why not a Bobcats game and just happen to run into old friends?
The QB that grayshirted to Wake in football and then Marshall comes after him hard and on the way back to the airport he just happens to run into ex Marshall QB Chad Pennington. Crazy coincedential world in recruiting.

Buzz (for all but his UT years) has done it in much weaker leagues than Bobby has.
True and even if we were comparing apples to apples, what would be the point in firing Bobby for Buzz? New blood? Not worth it. We need to aim higher than Buzz or we’re going to be in the same boat we’ve been in for the last 4-5 years or likely worse. I’d rather be mediocre with a guy who went to Charlotte and loves Charlotte than mediocre with a guy who loves the Tarholes.

Johnny Harris has nothing to gain for the City of Charlotte by funding ASU athletics.
Buzz did not do all those things but I bet he has dinner and been over to the homes of the people that did and he picked up the phone and called I bet they would take his call.
I am just saying everyone on here talks about moving to the BE. If you want to do that move there are only a handful of people in Charlotte that can make that happen and none of them are in our Athletic Department / Administration.
I am not saying hiring Buzz puts us in the BE and money to burn but all else being even on the coaching search do you not think this will not come into play? If you do not then you have never seen how the City of Charlotte really works.
Typical Charlotte fan…fairweather fans…if things sounds or are going good= Great!!!
THings sound bad or lose a game= TERRIBLE…
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…You guys really do think people are going to write checks for UNCC…they never have and never will…that has beeen the problem with Charlotte all along…Think of it in terms like a recruit…Recruit 1 has been offered by UNCC, UNC, Memphis, Louisville, etc…your pitch…Just imagine the teams, exposure you get at Charlotte…get to play Duquene, Fordham, St. Joes, etc…UNC, Duke, Memphis pitch…Your on TV every night…you play UNC, DUKE, Florida State, UConn, etc…
Rich Guy 1…You can give money to watch Fordham, Duquense, St. Joe’s, in a 5,000 seat arena…or you can GIVE to a university with a 20,000 seat arena…get to watch eventual pro players…other good teams…
GET THE POINT…

you said you were a season ticket holder for eleven years. why did you come to games then if you hate the team and the school so much?

I agree with your point about raising money. Not sure about the Big East reasoning though. If Coach A, say Brownell, takes Charlotte to a Sweet 16. While Coach B, say Buzz, only makes it to the NIT. Don’t you think Coach A makes the school look better than Coach B for the Big East?

Answer this question Ninerdad101.
Tulsa might disagree with you.
Being a fan of the Denver Nuggets, I’m glad at least one Dean Smith disciple is doing OK!
