Charlotte 49ers Athletic Facilities Master Plan discussion

Football facility is extremely close. Would be logical to expand press box and put offices there or in the current football field house as facilities improve.

You want your offices to be as close as possible to the field of play so I would like to see each sport have offices at their athletic venues with exception to golf. I think this is how the big players do it so this is how we should do it.

What’s wrong with golf having offices at Rocky River?

You could but it makes it harder for the students and meetings.

Good point. I wonder if golf has 2 offices. I would think the coaches would want something near the practice facility for cases where they want to watch video, left something in the office that they needed for practice, had to leave to jump on important call.

is the master plan coming out in a few weeks…i know all of us have been waiting patiently (maybe)

I know we’ve been waiting.

The patient part :man_shrugging:t2::man_shrugging:t2::man_shrugging:t2:

Latest word is November-ish

Oh! Whore’s Bladder! We need it know now!

Premature expectation.

It’s with a spirit of gratitude that I write to you during this truly wonderful time of year in college athletics. Our fall competition seasons are reaching their dramatic finishes and college basketball is underway as we prepare for a blessed Thanksgiving holiday. As I reflect upon 2019, it seems timely and appropriate to update you on our progress.

We’ve said quite often that we are here for our student-athletes and will prioritize their growth and personal development at every turn. In order to be faithful to this directive, the people who we add to our organization have to share that commitment. We recently hired two shining examples of this in Ragean Hill and Kyle Bailey. Ragean joined our team as Executive Associate Athletics Director, filling the sizable shoes of Kim Whitestone. Ragean brings a vast amount of industry experience, having served at Old Dominion, Arkansas, Nebraska and Kansas State. More importantly, she brings a true passion for student-athleteengagement and development. Kyle has taken over the leadership of our men’s tennis program after a remarkably successful stint as Associate Head Coach at South Carolina. Additionally, Kyle has past head coaching experience at Monmouth and American University, his alma mater.

We Niners have so much to be thankful for, especially when you consider the following accomplishments:

  • Eight Niners named to the C-USA All-Academic Team: Sydney Rowan, Jocelyn Stoner (volleyball), Teddy Chaouche (men’s soccer), Chandler Horton (cross country), Megan Greene, Mary Manser, Julia Grainda, Meredith Hamby (women’s soccer)
  • Will Healy’s football team winning 3 straight games, including a thrilling come-from-behind win over C-USA favorite North Texas, to position itself for a possible bowl berth
  • Kevin Langan and men’s soccer finishing the regular season at 11-3-4 and hosting Mercer Thursday night in the NCAA Tournament with senior Elliot Panicco named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year
  • Holly Clark and her nationally-ranked golf program winning its first two tournament titles
  • Cara Consuegra and the women’s basketball team off to a 4-0 start with road wins over Wake Forest and East Carolina
  • Ron Sanchez and men’s basketball, along with the Halton Arena faithful, with electrifying wins over rival Davidson and Wake Forest
  • Yumi Garcia – breaking the C-USA single-season digs record and becoming Charlotte volleyball’s all-time career leader – enough said!
  • John Cullen and our women’s soccer team, led by 8 seniors, delivering a 13-6 overall record, 7-3 in C-USA
  • Men’s cross country, led by senior Alex Cornwell, finishing 2nd in C-USA and a program-high 5th in the NCAA Southeast Regional
  • The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, led by Chris Everett, serving the less fortunate with the SAAC Cares Holiday Collection Drive and Community Events.

We are working hard on several projects which will significantly impact our program, including the Athletic Facilities Master Vision. This has been a thorough, rewarding process and we are very close to the completion of the plan, which is ambitious. It’s a 10-12 year roadmap for the future of our facilities that will impact every sport program and student-athlete. We are in the final stages of fine-tuning the plan and expect to be able to share it publicly early in the New Year.

As the holiday shopping season gets into full swing, I want to assure all Niner fans that we are keenly aware of and share your concerns about the availability of Charlotte licensed merchandise at retail. We’re working closely with the Collegiate Licensing Company and our University colleagues to expand our retail presence. We encourage all Niner fans to share with retailers your interest in our gear. Purchasing decisions, in many cases, are made in the corporate offices of the retailer. These decision-makers need to believe if they dedicate shelf space to Niner gear, the product will sell quickly. Quick sell-through will encourage our licensees to make more product and take more risk on additional products. 2020 will bring the completed results of our brand assessment, and we’re optimistic that we will be able to engage our licensees and retailers with the results of that exciting project.

I’m grateful that this Saturday we will play one of the most meaningful games in the history of Jerry Richardson Stadium. Will Healy will lead his high-flying football team against the Marshall Thundering Herd at 3:30 pm. For the first time, we’re competing for bowl eligibility. The fan support we have received this year has been tremendous! It has made a difference not only in our competitive results but how our program is perceived locally and nationally. I want to challenge all Niner faithful to join us Saturday to give our men – especially our seniors in their final home game – the support they deserve. Accept the challenge. Let’s show the college football world what’s happening in Charlotte, North Carolina!

I love seeing this type stuff from the AD and coaches. It let’s us know fully that they care and are listening to the fanbase. If our teams can start winning, and we keep this administration, the sky is the limit for the Niners!

So more updates on branding and master facility plan by next year. No big deal. But I am happy to see the mention and acknowledgment of our complaints about merchandise in writing.

This is a polar opposite of “stealth ad” and its so refreshing.

I hope the master plan includes the football stadium expansion to around 40k. Gutting Halton and getting it up to the year 2020. Not 1995. Lastly, a complete rebrand of athletics’ logos. Retiring all current logos and starting fresh. Hopefully the rebrand happens for fall 2020. Otherwise another year of treading water and poor merchandise availability/sales.

I think Halton will be lower on the list. It is still better than most of the schools we play, but they will need to update it at some point. They have added the new scoreboard which was over $1M a couple of years ago.

Football needs to go to at least a little over 30k. I doubt if we go much larger with attendance dropping at most schools. Upper decks on both sides would make it loud and look nice.

Some big video boards on those massive white cinder block walls in Halton would cure a lot.

Adding new video boards on the walls at Halton, pulling the track out, bringing in a new court with the rebrand, and sprucing up the concourse and that place is ready to rock for a new era.

Hill has been saying that the plan is ambitious though so who knows? Might include some sort of gutting of Halton and adding suite options. I know we could definitely make more money off of that sort of thing. That would be pretty cool!

Halton I think only really needs a fresh paint job (Niner Green?) and a new court. JRS needs full decks on both sides and the logos need a complete overhaul. Do we think academics might consider moving away from the Crown?
