Charlotte to Hire Michigan associate Head Coach Biff Poggi as new Head Football Coach

I wish Biff could bring back the belk tower and light it up green.

That would be epic…somehow re assemble the Belk Tower at the stadium.

Ok dammit, Aqua e vino is a worthy #1 and if Biff doesn’t order the lamb, or the veal, and the Chocolate Tarts, with after a wine/dinner cappuccino, he has failed to enrich himself and his party. Budget minded folks should maybe pass, or perhaps try their lunch menus with water.

Honorable mention for less Italian Italian, and more American Italian is Antico Italian Restaurant, exit 25 opposite 77 side of Birkdale next to where Micky and Mooch once dominated. They are 49ers Alum and attached historically to long missed Ciro’s. I recommend the Lobster Ravioli, served with mushrooms and spinach in a creamy white sauce, with the house Pinot Grigio. The calamari isn’t Ciro’s caliber, but sometimes it’s pretty close.

Now im hungry. I used to love mama ricottas. Its still good but when the head chef left, it became just decent

The head Chef is everything. When the head chef left Micky and Mooch years ago, we were devastated.

Also, aqua e vino reminds me of the actual Italian service and food at Forlini’s in Little Italy, which I sadly see is closed now. All of their waiters had to train in Sicily and they started feeding you courses of food before you ever ordered anything. Then when you were almost over stuffed, they would bring out a special small cocktail that somehow made more room in your stomach. Sometimes I would recognize Forlini’s interior in lots of Mafia-type productions for tv or movies. That’s one of the few places I really miss about visiting NY. Like old Yankee stadium, it was taken away too soon

Guy’s gonna have pneumonia by Thanksgiving

Does anyone get Business North Carolina magazine? Biff is on the cover and there is a good feature story on him and the program.

Poggi is getting called out for his comments:

Called out by App trolls online, shocking.

clt doesn’t care about an appy on the twitter.

glad biff is addressing the issue

He could have given the usual ā€œit’s on meā€ and spared everyone but that rings so hollow, especially considering how bad we looked. How often have we criticized our coaches for staying with mediocre coordinators? It’s been 10 years, we either go big or go home at this point. Nobody is interested in watching this team get blown out at home time after time. People are going to stop caring. I know I’m getting there.

Absolutely terrible leadership to call people out publicly. All he had to do was say it’s all on me and address it all behind the scenes. He would have been better served with coach speak and privately handling his business. This just makes everything thing look even more dysfunctional. This stuff is literally leadership 101.

It makes for good TV.
I hope I am wrong but I am starting to wonder if Biff is more interested in the ESPN documentary and solidifying his legacy than anything else and it caught up with him.

It really depends on the context. Maybe he had the discussion last week and it didn’t hit home. A good leader is someone who knows what it takes to motivate people. Maybe this is what he thinks it takes.

Could you imagine the blow back from the fan base had he not called the staff out? He has everyone feeling sorry for them now instead of lighting up Twitter calling for them to be fired. We all saw how bad the play calling was.

I am really interested in the affect this has. I feel like this may either get us a really good team or Biff is going to burn the house down and take Mike Hill with him. Honestly, as much as I hated seeing us lose, I really want to tune in next week to see what happens.

This is my field. I teach leadership. There’s a long list of leadership theories and calling out your own staff shortcomings publicly, especially is it’s directed at individuals, is a hands down the wrong direction. Adults when called out publicly almost never react positively and it is much more likely to do long term damage. If he told them to do something and they didn’t do it, handle it. Fire them. To air out laundry publicly is a terrible leadership quality.

What this screams to me is he trusted an inexperienced staff way too much and gave them too much rope. They likely have been lying to him on what they have been doing and coaching and even maybe player abilities. They don’t respect him and ignored his directives and rather than doing what a good leader does which is go meet 1:1 and remove them if needed he is trying to humiliate them into compliance because they don’t respect him.

This is the shit I get called into fix after it’s blown up. The only hope is he gave them a heads up he was going to rip into them and he’s already getting a game plan to fix this. Once people dont respect a leader it’s really hard to get it back. I have a feeling they’ve been telling him what he wanted to hear last few months which explains his bravado.

This post reinforces my belief on my post above. Hopefully good football is the by product of a good reality based docu. and everyone is tuning in for both. The lines are getting blurred but our whole society is becoming a glorified reality TV series. Crazy the power of recognition and the airwaves and social media.

As the Niners turn ( or burn). …

Yes BUT is this about the team or Biff and his ego. That is the question before you can determine motives behind the problem.
