Iām just telling ya from standard leadership practices this is absolutely not how itās done. Across the board.
We seem to be in deep water, not really sure what we expected from this experimentā¦.
Ga State HC has like 20+ yrs experience as a College position coach and now HC.
It is going to get a lot worse as we move into AAC playā¦.
Lashee (Sp?) HC Smu in less than two weeks is like an award winning OC and developed his offense with Gus Malzahn.
Hasnāt done much for him overall. He has a losing record as a HC. If we had a head coach for 7 years with a losing record, we wouldnāt have any fans left.
Our leadership keeps sucking us back in with gimmick hires and we eat it up every time.
Oh I hear ya. I am an old school type that started out with Charlie and Ed Shelton of Shelco when I was 16 so I get it.
I am just starting to wonder if we are all thinking about the team and school and Biff has other thoughts and considerations.
I guess I am wondering if Biff is a transactional coach or a transformative coach and where the wagon is heading.
Biff made his money trading stocks. Or whatever a hedge fund guy does. Being a college football coach is more like being the manager of a Walmart than a hedge fund guru.
I started the season with high hopes, but after his post game presser pretty sure where this is heading.
I donāt discount what you are saying, but I have a hard time believing that this guy came off the rails after 3 games. This guy was successful in multiple areas where he has led men. Multiple college, NFL players and coaches love the guy. He is credited by many to have helped turn around Michigan. I donāt know the end game of why he did what he did, but he is not dumb.
Exactly. This board has a lot of "experts " on nearly every subject. They write dissertations constantly so everyone knows how smart they are.
Thinking about the presser some moreā¦he was mad because the oc didnāt want to play his guy at qb. Maybe he is right about the strategy but holy shet what a terrible look.
Supposedly by shorting stocks during the S&L crash of '87 IIRC.
My recollection is that another football coach in Charlotte (though not in the QC anymore) had issues with his OC as well.
I disagree, looking over Elliotts results this is his 7th year coaching GA St, he will probably go to a bowl this year barring some Healy type of flame out. One 8 win season and 3 other bowl seasons, I would love those kind of results here.
Someone else said it, why do we keep having to hire gimmick head coaches, we need to get an established college head coach or coordinator and let the guy build a program. Itās crazy that Lambert is going to turn into our best head coach of our program if this Biff experiment doesnāt work outā¦
You canāt make a winning culture in football over night⦠I donāt even think weāve even tried yet.
Any time you want a leadership class on EQ, communication, change management, or other various leadership topics and theories let me know. Iāll be happy to help. Or I can see if I can get you a spot in a class I teach in various industries. In fact I teach these class for UNC Charlotte in the School of Professional Studies and just completed the curriculum for an undergraduate degree specializing in Leadership at our school. Iām sorry if I type too much for you to read.
Oh I donāt think he is dumb. Not at all. I think he is a really smart guy and I think he is a great guy and I think he really wants to help the kids. I also think heās trying to reel in his staff (heās basically said as much) after giving them too much rope and that is tough to do. Itās a common mistake with leaders stepping into an expanded role. His approach to fixing what is clearly a misalignment with his staff is an interesting one and would not have been the approach I would have recommended. He hired them though so who knows maybe it works. Just a really bad look and back fires way more often than it works.
I would never question your credentials or experience, but you have to recognize there are many different methods and styles of leadership and Mgmt that can be successful not just one. I think we all knew Biff isnāt āconventionalā from the beginning and I think the Asstās did as well. He did say he spoke to them before saying it at the presser. They shouldnāt be able to say they were blindsided by any comments. We are not in those meetings or in the Coaches offices, I think it is reckless to make assumptionās after 3 games. I forget who said it, āwe have one only bad lossā thus far, is just the last one. Lotās of teams can say that, Clemson, TCU, TT, etcā¦
Absolutely. There are all kinds of different ways to motivate. The real issue here is less the public ripping of his staff (which is bad as it is) and more the fact that apparently his staff is comfortable not doing what heās clearly asked them to OR they donāt know what heās asking for. To me thatās of the biggest concern. In game 3 of season 1 they should all still be in locked in on how they are working even if the results are not being seen. Either they disrespect him to the degree they are not scared to go against his wishes or they have no idea what the overall team goal is. Neither of those is a good and both are directly tied back to Biff.
At the end of the day, like Will, he hired them. He probably should have made sure he had more experience, but this is what we have to work with. So now he has to find a way to make it work. Iām pulling for him.
clt says a good boss is vital
Iām not judging him by the press conference. He was pissed off like most of us were. Iām gonna judge him based on the fixes we put in place
Letās see. At Florida. At SMU. Navy. Is that the next 3?
If we had gone to four bowl games in those seven years and won three of them we wouldnāt have any fans?
