Does Coach Reed get another year under the new AD? Does he take on hiring a MBB and a WBB in the same cycle?

New AD better not spend money on a WBB coach buyout

She will most likely get another year, but I would have no hard feelings if she were replaced this year.

Unless there’s a reason for Reed to be fired for cause, she would be owed money if dismissed before her 5 year contract expires.

300k a year for 3 more years. There are other things to blow half a million on than firing the women’s hoops coach 2 years into her tenure

Anyone have any thoughts about the offseason so far from all the teams and the portal? I tried to learn a little more about the new AD, and found a couple of young men, and a woman who talks about Charlotte sports, they had interviews with the football coach, I went back and listened to them, good interviews they did, I watched via youtube.

Coming back to Womens Basketball, did you all see what USF did to get Kristy Curry from Alabama? I will say I was surprised that Alabama was NOT putting into the womens program, if I remember correctly, I think they only get one percent of rev share, that is just terrible, especially for a power conference, but I know it’s a football school, but still, the Women have earned more than one percent. What USF is paying her, and giving her a much better rev share deal, USF gave her a better deal than Alabama, that is just crazy and sounds unbelievable, but it’s reality.

Not sure how long Coach Reed will be sidelined, but it was serious enough to where she needed to let Coach Cousin’s run things until she is fully recovered. Do any of you have any idea where Charlotte ranks compared to what USF is doing, because it feels like they are spending the most out of everyone in the conference, not sure by how much, but that’s what it appears just by them beating Alabama in money.

I felt the team could have done much better, especially if Daphne White was able to come back from suspension, but she did not which was disappointing, because she had to work really hard to come back for injuries, I wish things had played out differently.

Any expectations for the portal? I remember the one recruit coming, they won a state championship, but don’t remember the name off memory, I don’t remember if she was the only highschool recruit coming or not.

It may be hard to gauge things with Coach Reed’s Medical leave, but just wanted to check what other people were thinking so far with everything going on. Do you all feel better with the AD being a basketball person?

See that Talia Goodman of On3 lists 2 juniors as having entered the portal. One is little used G Tylissa Henderson, who Goodman has transferring to Grambling.

The other is F Caitlin Staley. At 6-4, Niners tallest player and led team with 47 blocks while also contributing 4.4 ppg and 3.4 rpg over the course of 32 games.

The official roster lists 3 players classified as seniors - leading scorer Princess Anderson (16.4 ppg), leading rebounder Asianae Nicholson (9.3 rpg), and assists and steals leader + 2nd leading scorer Tanajah Hayes (11 ppg, 5.3 apg, 2.3 spg), as well as grad student and rotation player Imani Smith.

That leaves at least 7 potential returning players, including 3rd leading scorer Zoe Best (9.2 ppg). I trust interim HC Cousin and staff are on top of things during Coach Reed’s absence.

Finally, it is wild to think USF could outbid Bama, especially after the Tide (24-11) made the NCAAT and lost by only a point to #3 seed Louisville in the 2nd round. Hopefully Curry will find similar success in Tampa.

I read somewhere that they weren’t putting much/any NIL into the WBB team at Bama. All-in on football and MBB. USF is loaning money from the academic side to athletics to fund NIL, including for WBB, which was a reason she chose to go there. University is also supporting the debt to build the football stadium.

ā€œRunning it like a businessā€ except half funded by student fees. I guess the debt piece makes it business-like.

Completely sustainable business model.

Third Niner to enter portal.

I hope she comes back if no one picks her up, or if an agent is using this as a new deal type of thing, the stats aren’t in position for that. It was her first year in division one, and she only had like one or two years of playing highschool ball before going to Junior College, so last season was truly the next step in her development. I don’t know if anyone has different thoughts, but because of that, I think a huge step this season is going to happen.

Three in the portal stated above, I wonder what other Bigs they are looking at, they are a huge part of her success. I wonder what it looks like for other teams in the American, I saw USF getting some players from Talia Goodmans twitter, I don’t subscribe to her service, but i’m sure it’s worth the price for those who need all the info.
