i thought ej was a scorer, and a converted sf? He did average 17 ppg in Juco, and was a top 5 juco.
Sure, and he turned out to be a good player for Charlotte.
The “some lead you to believe” comment got me. It’s as if the people who wanted Coley have an agenda or something. Everything I have seen about the kid indicates that he is a freak athlete and I’m anxious to see for myself. I don’t think anyone is falsely leading anyone else.
Coley averages a double-double per game (12/10). Those numbers actually look pretty good to me. Perhaps metro has seen junior college stats that I am not aware of.
this is stupid, and yesterday there was a release saying we have the #13 recruiting class....thats misleading.
and if Coley was the athletic freak phenom some lead you to believe, he would avg better than 12 pts 10 rebs in Juco.
We should definitely recruit more stat padders. That worked out well for us in DA, didn’t it?
The kid played on the best JuCo team in the nation in Dodge City. The roster was loaded. Top center, top PF, top SF in the nation, and they have the top PG for next year I believe. Not to mention, even if he did suck, with the athletic ability that people have SEEN him say he has, he’ll be more than capable to start on this team and do really well in this conference.
metro: Mitchell was a freak athlete. Demarco Johnson wasn’t. I have no expectations for the kid since I haven’t seen him play but he has to be no worse than Booker, Coleman, or Williams. The three of them combined to be probably the worst 4/5 trio in the A10.
Drayton does not really count as a JC, he is someone we wanted to play as a frosh, remember he was part of Withers/Grier traveling team, but ended up at JC for 2 years before coming to Charlotte.
Similar situation as the guard from high point we had a few years ago, forgot his name, it looks like Coley may of been a similar situation where we were recruiting him for many years now.

Would Courtney Williams be a JC, then? He played at an MCC school, then played in juco for one year to avoid sitting out a transfer year.

FWIW, Dodge City finished 20th in the final JUCO poll (Indian Hills CC was #1), had NO one named JUCO All-American, and Midland College (Texas) won the JUCO Division I men’s hoops championship.

Touche. I got my information from NBAdraft.net (The numbers aren't rank under each position, they're just a way to separate, so i've been told): http://www.nbadraft.net/maurer005.asp
Charlie Coley 6-7 210, Dodge City C.C. PF
Angel Santiago 6-0 175, Dodge City C.C. PG
The center I was thinking of was from Wabash; I got them mixed up because I had planned to make a joke about it before. But still, three players in the JuCo top 10 is pretty good, I’d think.

Charlie Coley 6-7 210, Dodge City C.C. PF
Wade Knapp 6-9 N/A, Dodge City C.C. PF
Angel Santiago 6-0 175, Dodge City C.C. PG
You make a good point. I remember Santiago was very highly ranked coming out of high school. I don’t know why he went the juco route. Wade Knapp generated a lot of interest on the Bradley boards when I was over there looking for info on David Collins a couple weeks ago. Santiago would explain why Coley did not score every point on his team and Knapp would explain why he did not grab every rebound.
I also remember reading this too on Coley:
Hilton Pitts may have been game-high with his 31 points. But, he did not distribute the ball. Junior Charlie Coley finished with only 8 points, coming off of one dunk and 3 offensive rebounds says it all. Pitts will have to look for his teammates more if they want to win more games.
Ya gotta search and find the players that have basketball skills and ignore the ballhogs. Y’know the players that artificially raise their own stock with selfish play and worry about personal stats over playing defense? F*** those players. I don’t want 'em anymore.
What kind of player is Coley? I won’t know 'till I see for myself. I’m hopeful, though, that the current batch of assistant coaches know what the hell they’re doing this time and might actually be able to scout out talent.

That’s why I never really wanted to see MB come here. Sure he is a great player, but I hate ball hogs. Guys that feel they are going to single-handedly carry a team to a National Championship. Still not getting excited about recruits until they play in November though.

I assume you’re talking about Zimmerman. Did we recruit him out of high school? I didn’t frequent the messageboard then, so I’m curious. I thought he blossomed as a JUCO player and that’s when we recruited him heavy.
A guy named Travis from UNCC called into WFNZ’s mid-day show, the MacAttack (?) hyping the top 15 ranked class and this year’s team. Nice. Better to have hype and hope, than not.

exactly, you are making my point. Demarco looked like a clutz half the time on his way to 25 points a night.
all I am saying is have some cautious optimism folks. When Coley signed last week, you’d thought we signed Dennis Rodman.
survivor, EJ was decent. I am only speaking about hype. Coley has recieved too much hype from this board (especially from one poster). I get sick of it- especially with incoming guys.
if hes another EJ, I guess thats OK. Hopefully he is more Kelin Price/Cam Stephens.

Charlie Coley > Dennis Rodman.
Make that two posters he has received too much hype from.
All kidding aside, it was mentioned on here that Dodge City CC sent like 6 players to D1. Coley ppg is directly associated with the fact that he had to share the wealth. Please get over the Carlos Williams syndrome already metro.
Please get over the Carlos Williams syndrome already metro.
wtf?
how long have you been reading this board? a freakin year? I am talking about over-hype of all incoming players for the last decade. Some of you are so horny for incoming talent, you’ll deam anyone who signs a LOI a “freak” and the guy clearly is not a “freak” or he would of had better juco stats.
I will say we have signed alot of freaks the past few years though.
hell, the best 3 players the last decade had lead in their shoes (jobey, DJ, plav). Basketbal players excite me not track stars (Butter, Mitchel, etc). I am just glad we seem to have a real point gaurd for the first time in seems like forever.
I see this as a double edged sword too. Now if the team doesn’t live up to expectations then the blame will have to fall on the coaches not being able to coach. For example in 2 years, if this 13th ranked recruiting class is not in the top 25 in the polls then we aren’t doing a good job developing our players. I mean if we really have the 13th ranked class in the country then I should expect some decent success, right? 32 teams make it past the first round of the NCAA. Therefore at a minimum we should have better talent than 19 of those teams. So Charlotte accopmplishing at least that seems like a reasonable expectation.
