Doubful, but I am not sure it was the idea of the admin team at the school either. Apps football team is a few decades older than Charlotte is as a school. Times were different.
I am not knocking the effort it took to form a football team at Charlotte. It is to be applauded.
Do you think having the Panthers tank will also be needed. There just are not many NFL cities that also really go out for a college team in the same city.
If the Panthers tank while Charlotte is winning I could see that moving the needle, and just winning will not hurt the movement of the needle in your direction but if both teams are winning is there enough media and attention from everyone to be spread around?
Atlanta and GT seem to work at some level but not as much for GaSt. That is Prig5 vs Great5 schools as well. Maybe Houston. has it working. LA has some Prig5 schools but that is a different situation that a Great5 school as well.
What makes you say that? Iād argue that of the 18 NFL teams that have a FBS college team in the same city, 16 of them are very supportive of their college team. I do think Charlotte is one of the exceptions as of now (in part due to infancy of the program, lack of success, and poor job by the school of branding/integrating with the city). But I donāt think Iād agree with your premise.
Fair question back to me on the NFL and FBS support.
I guess I am wondering which NFL cities you do think support their FBS schools at a very high level.
One other question to ask is why do only 18 cities have FBS programs. Some of these cities used to have football programs that are not FBS now. There are a ton of reasons that may be the case but lack of local support as the NFL became more ascendant in the publicās eye is part of that answer.
I think you are correct in that it is not impossible but I do think it not the norm.
Seattle, Miami, LA, Dallas, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh all have college teams that average more than 40k in attendance. Minneapolis, Tampa Bay, Boston, Washington, Cincinnati, and Houston all average more than 30k, and Nashville and Philadelphia have teams that average 28k.
Only New Orleans, Buffalo, and Charlotte have FBS teams that average less than 28k (Tulane and Buffalo at 18k, and Charlotte at 11k). Admittedly, Tulaneās fan base is smaller than Iād realized so Iād change my point to 15 of 18. For me, Iād say that 28k people turning up every week for a football game is a pretty sizable fanbase. Yes, some of these cities are much larger and have more people in them, but them also have a lot more things to do that compete with going to a football game.
I also think that game attendance is probably a lot more tied to how well a team performs (good teams have good attendance, and bad ones are attended more poorly) but I havenāt done any research to substantiate that. But my guess would be team performance is vastly more indicative of attendance than whether or not there is a nearby NFL team.
Do you have examples of NFL cities that used to have FBS but no longer do? There very well could be some, Iām just not aware of them. Either way, this isnāt something Iād really thought about before, so itās been fun looking into it some. Good luck to your team today (but, ya know, not too much).
Good research, and more than I have done. Iāll try and get back to you on your question, but you make a stronger case than I thought was going to be made.
I am glad the straws are gone. Needless waste of plastic. However if you get this in time try Pepperās.
My wife loves the Jean Lawson. Fried mushrooms are great and my dad always loved their French Onion soup. I think they have some good hamburgers for those that love some red meat, as I do.
Not sure if that was ever official and not sure what everyone else thoughtā¦but I kinda liked it and hope it does become a theme for our games against them.
It does suck losing this game because we were so close, but this is what weāve been asking for. The offense kept going even when their backs were against the wall. Yes there were mistakes and it killed us but we saw the fight from the team that we have been lacking. Great things to come!
If youād have told me we were going to give up 56 points and lose and Iād feel good about it, Iād say you were crazy. But that was one fun game and though I know there are no moral victories, Iām feeling pretty excited about this team.
