Texas State joins either the MWC or the PAC next.
If they join the PAC, NMSU will be hounding the MWC offices to join with UTEP. They for sure already are. They’re completely out on an island now in CUSA.
Personally, if the PAC insists on not merging, I think Hawaii is made a full member of the MWC, with UTEP and NMSU joining. Texas State joins the PAC, along with Gonzaga and St Mary’s in all sports but football.
MWC could get aggressive and add Wichita State and or Grand Canyon as well for other sports. Dunno what Wichita 's exit fees would be.
Good for UTEP!
None of them are worth it in a vacuum.
They are worth a lot because they have built up a long record of success against their conference foes.
This whole thing of unequal revenue distribution among conference members pisses me off.
a. The big brands had to and continue to have to have someone to play.
b. If you sign unequal revenue distribution then you’re basically saying that the teams getting less are doomed to irrelevance forever.
The ultimate expression of this would be a conference of the top ten media brand.
I will continue to say it.
P2 or P4 or P1 super league whatever you want you want to call yourselves.
Rid us of your greed and split off.
Don’t drag us into your private hell.
Just go already.
I’ll be down here watching my team in D1 AA or AAA or D2/3. Wherever we can land where schools are willing to cooperate and compete on a level playing field.
That’s where I want to be.
They can take their greedy house of cards and go fly a kite for all I care.
Guys you know that this lack of movement and fighting over the table scraps left over from the power schools is likely driven by athletic departments around the country like our own who don’t want to have to cut staff, cut salaries, etc.
And to that I say deal with it. Do your duty for what’s best for the school.
The gravy train is coming to an end.
I look forward to welcoming you all to the real world outside your cushy bubble.
Not saying I disagree - but in ADs - especially ones like ours the senior positions make some good money but the rest of the positions are under paid. Lots of folks make 30-40k with virtually no prospects for significant increases and our AD is significantly smaller than many other schools and its been that way for years.
clt folks are quoting ecu’s AAC buyout at 25M
wsu would be lower without fb
I stand corrected other than on the top brass.
Really surprised they didn’t add St Mary’s. That seems like a no brainer to me.
Tarleton State?
I guess if you want another Texas school and you strike out with the AAC and Texas St that puts them in play. They got a lot of money.
Not reflected in their endowment. Just a real head scratcher.
Texas State was 206 NET in hoops last year, so not quite the boat anchor some might predict.
