Questioning science? I thought science was always to be questioned. How much settled science has been recently debunked? I know of numerous foods thought bad for us that are now thought okay. The “Big Bang” is now under assault. In the 70s we were expecting global cooling, then it was global warming, and now “climate change” as a catch all because the question can’t be settled. Science is not always settled and those who question aren’t necessarily deniers, maybe just skeptics.
Today my sister-in-law went into terminal care. They are only allowing 2 people total to visit so her oldest son is not going to be able to say goodbye to his Mother. This is cruel, unnecessary, and totally due to the jackasses in charge of NC. Welcome to the new world order. Khrushchev is laughing his butt off at us.
I’m not saying that science should not be questioned, however don’t do it out of sheer convenience or based on politics (on both sides). If people want to argue the facts, I’m all for that as an engineer, however whether a vaccine is valid or if gravity truly exists should not be politically slanted however it seems to have become the position for baseless facts and childish discussions over the last 4 years.
The problem is that when one questions science they are labeled. If one sincerely believes the science then stand up for it and stop lobbing grenades to those that disagree. Also let those who don’t have the vaccine fend for themselves. Lets go ahead get this country completely open again and leave the rest of us alone to live our lives without big bro all over us.
I can agree with that as long as we can all keep politics out of if. Politicians, on both sides, are going to try and score points when it is convenient to them, however we don’t have to fall into those same traps.
Can we just keep talking about how 49er athletics can continue to grow and be more relevant in the D1 discussion. I just want us to become a talking point in D1 sports (in general or in a few sports), just something dammit.
People knocking people for questioning “accepted science” are usually not much different than the Pope questioning Galileo, except that they are much much close to being the sheep. They almost never admit they were wrong, but instead continue to adjust their “accepted science” theories to defend their false supremacy agendas. Not to be critical.
Again, I am not questioning anyone’s ability to question science, however when you use politics to prove your point, your point immediately becomes moot and jaded. Not to be critical of one being critical.
When the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidelines last month for mask wearing, it announced that “less than 10 percent” of Covid-19 transmission was occurring outdoors. Mediaorganizationsrepeatedthe statistic, and it quickly became a standard description of the frequency of outdoor transmission.
But the number is almost certainly misleading.
It appears to be based partly on a misclassification of some Covid transmission that actually took place in enclosed spaces (as I explain below). An even bigger issue is the extreme caution of C.D.C. officials, who picked a benchmark — 10 percent — so high that nobody could reasonably dispute it.
That benchmark “seems to be a huge exaggeration,” as Dr. Muge Cevik, a virologist at the University of St. Andrews, said. In truth, the share of transmission that has occurred outdoors seems to be below 1 percent and may be below 0.1 percent, multiple epidemiologists told me. The rare outdoor transmission that has happened almost all seems to have involved crowded places or close conversation.
Unfortunately, the CDC has become part of the political landscape with an agenda that skews their communication. Fauci has taken the bait as well and fell into the same trap.
Just for clarification, we have a political forum on this board, which is opt in (an admin has to change your user status at your request). It used to be active but died off for the most part years ago. If it’s something people want to engage in, it is easy enough to do so.
We also have a political channel in the Chat feature - it’s actually called PoliticsAndNews. I kind of regret the long name because it makes joining it more difficult.
To join it, go into the main chat by clicking on the chat bubble icon at the top of the page, and once in the main chat, type /join #PoliticsAndNews
A warning: though the discussions there are civil, you are subjecting yourself to open criticism and discussion of any and all viewpoints. But it keeps the political chatter off the board.
So far the mods have collectively allowed this thread to run its course because Covid is too big of a deal and shouldn’t be political. But I know it has spooked some of us, and I want to make it clear that we do not want it becoming a political fight. While some opinions vary, the main point of the thread is to share and discuss / debate the evolving information on the virus and how it is affecting our lives and our fandom.
As long as it remains civil and non political, the thread can remain open.
Covid shouldn’t be political, but good luck trying to keep the subject matter separate. As I see it, this virus is so different and new, that almost every scientific finding made has been retracted, reissued or modified in some major way - pretty much moving targets. In my opinion, the primary political situation is related to endless blaming, primarily because of ignorance or political leverage. Just because something bad happens, it doesn’t always means a person or group of persons are at fault.
Is there any discussion in America today that does not have a political undertone? I was at the HS tennis regionals and started to talk to another parent I have never met and within 5 minutes he started on transgender athletes that will soon change the landscape and how political policy must do something now. WTF!!!
Just don’t know how every subject will not soon be under the political umbrella. Sad and ridiculous all at the same time.
