David Booker - 2006 sf/pf

This is great news; we need some frontcourt help in a big way. Not sure how good he is but we’ll take it at this point.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!! It’s going to be fun watching him and the other incoming freshman develop before our eyes.

I think Booker is superb. Nice to see us get a solid 3/4 hybrid player. I’ll take any guy who can drop 50 in the playoffs.

David Booker Profile

After scoring 14 points and grabbing 6 rebounds in the Alabama-Mississippi all-star game, power forward David Booker of Moss Point High in Mississippi, committed to the Charlotte 49ers. The prospect confirmed the news to Scout.com Saturday afternoon.
Numerous programs began pursuing Booker (at one time Northwestern led) during his monster senior season. In fact, Booker put up 27 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists a game. For his efforts, he was named his state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

I think grabbing a player of his caliber this late is huge! Rarely do we get a guy this late that is potentially is as good as he is. Usually we fill frontcourt gaps at the very end with average juco players.

Big commit for us, he will certainly be a PF for us with all of the other wing players we have signed. With the attention he was getting from big time schools, this is big, he is probably better than most rankings give him credit for. He seemed to “blow up” a bit lately, any state player of the year is a good signing.

So one more left, fingers crossed that Tatum gets eligable.

So the question is do we have another schollie open, is Tatum eligible?

Agree, He will be playing a 4 for us with the lack of big men, but I think this also reassures that Dewhurst or Andersen or even both will be redshirted.

Here is what I have posted on him in the 2006 thread…

Nice. I guess no Habel, but thats OK, I’m excited about this kid. If nothing else, seems he can score. Would like to see all the frosh develop here.

Can I be the one to get that $20 or are you going to contribute that to the boosters?

I don’t see that as a lock. I think one will, but not neccesarily both. One of them will likely be the #2 SG on our depth chart next year, probabl Andersen. If Lutz wants a shooter, Andersen could get some limited minutes, playing the Marcus Bennett role for us next year(with less minutes). Wilderness and Booker will both likely be used at both forward spots. Dewhurst sounds like he can play the 2 or the 3 for us. They might rather have his versitility over Andersen’s shooting, who knows. Plus, either one might be more ready than Wilderness or Booker, there is no telling.

Regardless, I am officially excited about our future. Just the thought that we have enough talented freshmen coming in is a lot different from the last few years. We knew exactly what Leemire was going to give us pretty much from the moment he signed, same with Mullis (didn’t work out obviously). But this year we have so many options, it will be very intersting over the summer and early Fall. All of these new guys will work their asses off for the chance at PT.

the thoughts of having Anderson in the program 5 years with his work ethic is very appealing.

He just committed. A big get for the Niners… We’ll chat with him today.

GREAT NEWS!!! I’m glad to see we were fortunate enough to pick him up. A PF who can score and rebound this late in the recruiting season and he’s a Freshman!!! Welcome home, Booker!!!

He said he didn’t know how it got out because he had just ACTUALLY committed, either way good stuff.

Scout beat ya to the scoop, that doesn’t usually happen.

27 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists is what Booker averaged as player of yr in MS this year at 6’8’’ 215 lbs.

Byron Sanders was MS state player of the year, listed at 6’8’’ 215 lbs, signed late with chapel hill, and got his team to the finals of the state instead of the semis. He averaged 14 pts, 13 rebs, and 5 blocks a game his senior year.

Alot of similarities. But, it looks like Sanders was never a scorer, and Booker is in high school and may be in college. We’ll see.

 A 6’8" Rebounder/Scorer/Shot Blocker! Nice!

It’s hard to believe that we got a talented freshman that suits this team perfectly this late in the year. Big thumbs up to the coaching staff in recruiting this guy!

Great news. There’s a connection between a former Lutz player at Pfeiffer and Booker. Got us in the door, he became a must get and it was the perfect fit. Nice job in getting in late and signing a potential big time FR recruit.

I made mention to it to Langston Wertz so hopefully Booker will be mentioned in the Observer.
