as much as this loss hurts, and it is an awful blow, think about it this way; let’s say we kept major this season. we keep woods, izundu and maybe clayton. we would have a lot of talent, better than cusa by a mile and we would all get excited about the potential and would probably underachieve again. maybe not 14-17 like this season, maybe 18-14 but still underachieving. we would have fired major at the end of the season and woods and izundu would have left anyways. i wish we could keep these kids but this is part of what happens. woods was the first player recruited by major when he got the job so i imagine they had quite a relationship. i am concerned that him and izundu couldnt be sold on being the foundation of a program and all the pt they could want. i am also concerned that we have not heard anything about offers. that needs to happen now.
Pretty much how I see it. Hence, why I’m not acting like the sky is falling.
Yup, pretty much nails it, people on this board get so tied up with how much talent we think is on the roster, and maybe the 15 years between 1995-2010 it was fair to think that way, as we saw with the coaching staff we just fired, talent won’t win you games alone, let’s see what kind of kids Price gets in here for next year and how he does with them. He’s not going to start the season with 5 guys…
We had talent, just not a staff to utilize it.
Unfortunately, I’m not so sure I can actually agree with you on that. We had parts, but nothing to make them a whole, whether that was more talent, or better coaching.
Anyone who thought we would get rid of a coaching staff and not lose players is delusional (not aimed at you 2k). If we were hiring a new coach because Major was leaving for the Tennessee job then I’d be more worried, but we fired our coach for being inept. I have no issue with starting anew if that means losing a few guys. Two seemed like they were leaving anyways (Thorne and Clayton), Woods, and a big that we don’t even know how good he would or could be.
Wow, I project him as an NBA HOF’er and ten minutes later he ask for his release. I guess my post went to his head!!! This is a major bummer. I thought with him coming in, some Price magic might have made us competitive. Now I have zero interest or excitement for the future. Hopefully Price has some miracles up his sleeve because outside of Dorn we have a bunch of guys that are barely D1 worthy on this roster. As it sits right now, we will be lucky to win 10 games next year.
I know it’s a new coaching staff, but I don’t understand all the departures. I was looking forward to Izundu in niner green!! Unless something changes Price’s first year could be single digit wins.
Could be. Majors 6th year could also have been single digits.

I was never impressed by Major as a head coach. Met him a few times and he seems like a really good guy. I have been impressed by Price in his interviews just hope he impresses as a head coach. We have to be patient and hope he can recruit some talent.
I’m pretty sure I watched Northern Iowa take a group of low recruited players 2 stars or less to a 31-4 record and a high seed in the NCAA tournament while we had a group of higher rated recruits nose dive into another season. I think it is more important to have a good system with player buy in versus a high level recruit. If you have both you win or contend for championships. If Price can turn the leftovers and what he can bring in to a decent season I will think we have something. If he wins less than 15 then we may still be looking for a coach. I think about 15 is the over/under mark for me even with the departures.
i totally agree but by and large, the higher ranked recruits are better. the thing about losing izundu that sucks the most, is that he is one of those really talented players who will work harder than anybody else on the team. against oak hill, he did not take one play off despite his team being outmanned.
Be prepared to be disappointed.
Be prepared to be disappointed.
Especially if Dorn leaves too. We’ll have walkons playing meaningful roles, and they probably won’t be as talented as Colby Lewis was.

Or maybe everyone will leave and we’ll have to shelve the program for the season. I can make baseless proclamations as to what could potentially happen!
Let me get this right - a team with Clayton, Thorne, Woods, and Dorn won 14 games this season. At least 3 of those won’t be returning, plus the spector of losing our lone, much heralded signee. And the new coach is supposed to win at least 15 games next year or else? What am I missing here?

Green tinted glasses.
Second thought, these are green beer goggles after drinking spiked green kool-aid all night.

considering there’s been no actual report as to his intentions… I’d say that’s fairly baseless.

Most think our coaching was so bad it made us lose games instead of win…

that’s exactly what I think.
Well… If we win 16 games next year should price be a contender for coach of the year?
I don’t wanna even think it but is Dorn staying 100%?
You jinxed us ya bastard…

Losing players is one thing but at this point I’d say it’s safe to say something is going on. It doesn’t make me warm and fuzzy inside. That’s for sure.
