Fire Alan Major

This does not include a probable increase in 49er Club members. If Major lands another job, we can actually make money on the deal.

This calculation works even better… Average 1000 additional tickets per game * Average Price of $15 per game * 15 games = $225,000 in increased ticket sales. We are already ahead of the game.
You really think we will see that much of a bump because Major is fired? Unless we made a splash hire (i.e Larry Brown @ SMU) this isn’t going to happen.
I agree would take a splash hire to see you that kind of jump. However we could be looking at a 1000 ticket swing. Bring Allan back I go from 4 tickets to one and I know many others feel that way. So figure new coach equals 500 new tickets bringing major back equals loss of 500.
Bleeds, you’re probably correct about not making an immediate splash, but we could well have an increase of 1000 in ticket sales after one season, or even on a per game basis halfway through the first season. Include NWA’s logic about losing additional fans in Halton, and the net gain can actually exceed 1000. By the 2nd or 3rd year, we can be making more additional revenue in ticket sales than we were paying Major. Of course, Judy would have to hir the right coach to make this happen.

Adjusting my formulas to include a net gain of not losing an additional 500 fans added to the 1000 additional fans:

1500 New Season Tickets * Average Price of $150 = $225,000 in increased ticket sales. This does not include a probable increase in 49er Club members. If Major lands another job, we can actually make money on the deal.

This calculation works even better… Average 1500 additional tickets per game * Average Price of $15 per game * 15 games = $337,500 in increased ticket sales. We have already made over 100 grand.

Absofreakinlutely. And then sone…

If he is here next yr there are 3 groups that kill your revenue:
1 People furious who have bailed
2 people furious, who are bailing after this debacle
3 your typical annual increase any biz should have

That is 1500-2000 butts in seats

We are at 5100 avg today. That drops more.

Very possible when you look at from a retaining season ticket holders standpoint but I guess depends on how much faith each season ticket holder has in Judy to hire the next head coach. If you are going to fire Major, you will have to do the same with Judy if you truly want to “refurbish” the fanbase.

Nobody is buying tickets immediately if it is another no name hire. It would take a couple winning seasons (maybe an NCAA) to win back trust.
Not true…I dropped season tickets this year after almost 20 straight seasons and I will GUARANTEE you that I will buy season tickets again if Major is let go this off-season, regardless of who the replacement is.

Alot of truth there.

I would have faith in a consulting firm recommendation - which she gleefully in public refused last round

Not sure I really understand your logic behind this. So you have faith in Judy but not Major? For all we know she hires another unproven assistant if he is canned.

You gave up all those 49er club points? Ouuuuuuch. Isn’t that cutting off your nose to spite your face? I’d have at least bought one cheapo family zone type ticket.

What about Cara Consegrua? She ran off the Asst. that was the heart of the women’s team. She’s 1 game below .500 this year, and was 16-14 in one of her 1st 3 years. Her 1st yr. she fired the Admin. Asst. that knew all of the fans in the Fastbreak Club and made it feel like a family atmosphere. She cut down the pre-game meals of the Fastbreak Club from almost every home game, to only a couple each year by her 2nd yr. She got rid of the single membership last yr., so if you wanted to join, you had to buy a 4-pack membership. Hell, her 1st yr., our main 3 shooter, Katie Meador, I think the name is was a Sr. who almost never played. I’m not even sure how many people still attend WBB because I’ve only been to 1/4 of a game this yr., & that was before a MBB game.

Has V-Ball, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Tennis, or Softball ever made a NCAA Tourney under their current coaches? Or Men’s Tennis? Heck, even Baseball isn’t what it once was.

Who does Marketing? Nobody that we can tell. Who goes after corporate donors? Nobody that we can tell.

Who teached tackling? Not the DL or LB Coaches? Who learns not to do bubble screens that frustrate Christopher Guin? Not the OC?

If we can Alan & Judy, a new AD is firing everybody.

To me 49er Club points don’t really carry that much weight after your football seats got locked in. My donation level is now soley based on keeping my football seats and tailgating spot.

I guess I’m still basketball-centric.

1. Major does not get fired this year.
2. One player playing significant minutes transfers.
3. One player gets arrested/is academically ineligible/injured in offseason.
4. Benkovic returns at 100% strength.
5. Our SOS is around 100-125 after non-con.

What would it take for Alan Major to keep his job after next season? NCAA tournament or bust? What if we won 25 games, but lost in the finals of C-USA championship and got NIT bid? Would he be fired then? Would he be extended again?

Quotes from from Judy and Alan, respectively, when Alan was hired.

I hired Bobby and he did a great job for us but the last five years have been stagnant. We kept waiting, thinking this will be the year it turns around. This year we won 19 games, but we won them early and hit a bump we couldn't get past. We're not an intramural program. This isn't a church league. We want to win. It's not everything -- graduating players, the APR, all of that counts -- but winning is a big piece.
You have to figure out who you are. We need to establish ourselves and become a team that is playing in the month of March not occasionally, but consistently. I know that takes an immense amount of work but culturally you are who people say you are. Ultimately we want to earn the right so that kids say they want to come to our place as opposed to settling for our place.

If all of those 5 happened and the sos was 100-125m I don’t see how 25 wins would be possible… But if he did, and got to the NCAA’s - he gets another year (25 wins, losing 2 key cogs would be a hell of a coaching job)… But if Judy has yet to retire he might get a lifetime contract if he pulled it off.

So glad we are achieving our goals.

Not a bad question.
Hard to dismiss CUSA’s weakness. (Like this year, the top team, LT, has a good chance of not getting an at large bid.)

Without looking it up I do not remember the specific numbers, but Major’s contract contains bonuses where he get part of the ticket money for each seat with increases in attendence. This is typical these days, and it is certainly smart to reward what we want more of, but it cuts into your math. Putting 1000 more butts into seats is a still a huge win though.

I’m certainly not Judy`s #1 fan but my dislike for her leadership hasn’t kept me away. I’m just tired of the Allan major show. Give me and others change and we stick around. If you don’t give people hope they walk away. Our fan base has very little hope. I’ve missed over half our games, my wife has come to even fewer. Just doesn’t make sense to have 4 seats for this garbage.

Not sure I really understand your logic behind this. So you have faith in Judy but not Major? For all we know she hires another unproven assistant if he is canned.
Its called having “hope” (not the same as "faith) that the replacement will prove better than Major and supporting the program when I think an honest effort is being made. My loyalty is with the university/program (and I want it to succeed) not Judy, or Alan or anyone else. As for hiring another “unproven assistant”, while it would not be my first choice it COULD still work out. Just because one didn’t, it doesn’t mean the next might not.
