Fire Ron Sanchez

Top 3 looks unrealistic

Of course, we need to do what’s going to land us in the top 2 of the East division, which would secure a double bye in Frisco. That is realistic as of now.

8th…in CUSA… In year 4

Since C-USA is divided into East and West divisions, we are currently a half game out of 2nd place. As I mentioned above, do what’s needed to secure a top two finish in the East and we earn a double bye in Frisco.

BTW, not saying that I’m satisfied with our record, but C-USA set up the parameters, so being in a “weaker” division can work to our advantage.

Sanchez will get more time than his performance deserves, and it will be based upon contract extensions and potential buyouts, two different athletic directors, two different mens basketball coaches, and the same mistake, quit rewarding short term mediocrity

Your point about Marshall being without their best player was spit on, and I expect many more 19 point half type of games coming up. The Marshall game Saturday, in my opinion, was in no way an indication that Sanchez righted his sinking ship.

Since Marshall is winless (0-8) in league play with Kinsey in the lineup, he most likely wouldn’t have changed the outcome of Saturday’s game.

True, but that doesn’t fit the narrative of other posters.

I have said this before but if Ron comes back it’s going to be because Mike believes what ever he is seeing is the right direction. I do not think the extensions will be the primary reason he doesn’t get fired. Now we can all take issues with that after the season finishes and where we land, but I am confident contract won’t come into play in any major way.

The first contract extension wasn’t that bad. Most ADs keep their coaches under contract for 3/4 years due to recruiting - in fact that was an issue for many of us with Bobby, she let hi go into his final season and it absolutely impacted his recruiting his last few years. The second extension is the one that doesn’t make sense. I don’t understand that at all. I will say though compared to Judy’s contract with Bobby this contract is brilliant. Only the base is owed and is offset by just about anything college basketball related. Top assistants in the ACC are making 350-400k so our pay out, should we fire him, is likely not that bad with the offset as I would expect Ron to land another assistant job - perhaps even back with UVA.

I will put this in basketball-related terms. Sanchez will continue on like Lamar Odom - shitting the bed

The team is absolutely affected by Jahmir’s contribution. I will say though, against WKU he seemed to just have a bad shooting night, plus probably didn’t get some calls that he might have been expected. He got a lot of close looks against WKU that either didn’t fall or didn’t get the whistle.

I’ll also add, even though Marshall is not very good, we looked like 2 different teams vs WKU and vs Marshall. I don’t know if that’s simply confidence or also Sanchez mentioned that WKU’s 7’5" Sharp can be intimidating first time seeing him.

We shot 38% on 2’s and 26% on 3’s against WKU. Then we went out and shot around 60% and 60% against Marshall. There were times against WKU where I thought Threadgill is not D1 ready. Then against Mar he was 3 for 5 and 2 for 3, with 6 rebs.

We’ve all said it for 4 years now, if players like Braswell, Trapp and Threadgill can consistently hit from 3, we’re a different team.

Yup - we have the fire power. That is why the offensive droughts are so frustrating.

I will say those that say Ron can’t adjust hasn’t really watched the team. We are def more offensive minded this year than previous years. No idea if that is due to talent or Ron being open to adjusting his style or if he was told to pick it up some. I’d like to see him open it up a but more though.

Defensively though ugh

Rons biggest problem is his substitutions just don’t make any sense. Probably a big part of why we have offensive droughts as well.

Against WKU, we did not stick to the game plan and played selfishly. At least that is what I saw.

In the Marshall game, it looked like we did run some plays to get Jahmir going early. I could be wrong, but they looked like new plays that I have not seen all year. Also, they ran a different out of bounds play than their normal one that never works.

The performace difference between WKU and Marshall, especially the shooting percentages, might have something to do with the fact that Marshall does not play defense except in theory.

Yeah I’m afraid that’s the case.

Against WKU I did wonder why Threadgill was getting 30+ mins, while Jallow and Cannon barely played.

I think the biggest reason I choose stay positive at this point, be it Mike or Will or even Ron, is that the alternative is I walk away. If I go as negative on things as many of you have, I am not sticking around to complain and bitch. I am just gone. The closest I came to that was when Judy wouldn’t consider football. It wasn’t Ws and Ls or coaches - it was literally the direction of the program after we found out we were getting kicked out of CUSA 1.0. Once we got football I swore I would never teeter on that line again and so I won’t. Which means I just have to keep looking at things as positive as I can. The emotion you guys put into being so negative is just more than I can do - it just seems miserable to me. Too many other things that are bigger issues than the Niners for me to throw negative energy at and nothing even close to the gross negligence of Judy is occurring to stir that anger up to a point it’s worth it.

I absolutely hated Major - more than ya’ll hate Ron, but most of that is because he was brought into get us back up a notch to NCAAs and he clearly had no idea what he was doing very early on. I still bought tickets though and I still went to games and I kept donating at the same levels. With Ron he came into a absolute disaster of a program. That doesnt excuse losing but it does impact how angry I get. Unlike Major where recent NCAAs were just a few years prior, now they are a distant memory. So the anger is subdued and all I have is hope and I will ride that hope until it is clear that there is no reason to hope after the season concludes be it basketball or football. Then I trust Mike to make a decision that is understandable. No amount of me rooting for or against the team matters, so I choose to be happy when the guys with the name Charlotte across their chests win.

The NCAA tournament isnt some mythical fairy fountain you need to drink from to return. 260 teams have been since we have, many for the first time, or their first time in a very long time. We are further removed from success, but we can recruit well in a crummy league. We have before Ronald, we have since, we juat havent hired anyone who can actually coach.

Unfortunately too we’ve hired guys qho spwnd more time on platitudes and truisms than championship building attitudes and efforts. Our next coach MUST come in and say conference championships and NCAA tournament births are the goal. Its been all too evident that we’ve hired people who wont hold themselves accountable. They wont even set goals which is step 1 of accountability.

FWIW price said those things at his introductory press conference. I was so happy he threw down that gauntlet but then well he was just bad.
