Ron has a system ???
Not a very good one
His system is a lot like the master plan. It exists, but we havenāt seen any hard evidence of it yet.
I beg to differ. I think we have seen the evidence.
Agreed. Fā the UVA/Bennett system. Create the Sanchez system. You can use portions of the Bennett system at times. But overall, there are just too few examples of it succeeding. Roy Williams didnāt use an exact copy of the Dean Smith system. Coach K didnāt use an exact copy of the Bobby Knight system.
Weāve got to get and utilize shooters off of ball screens. We have gone from 312->315->249->195 in 3 pointers attempted. So there are signs that Sanchez has been making some adjustments.
Where are the examples of this happening successfully?
I may have missed this, but I noticed a few posts above saying Hill has indicated he is keeping Sanchez. Do we have any proof aside from emails that may allude to such? Iām just looking for confirmation. From my naive experience, coaching moves usually happen during the tourney and especially just after.
Maybe I missed it. And if Sanchez is staying, I hope there is some major pressure from what donors we have to improve the program.
He responded in email to a fan. @MHH2006 posted it on this thread and another.
He also all but said it in a reply to me as well.
And get a few offensive rebounds while youāre at it.
He responded to a poster here in an email and said āwe arenāt making a coaching change after 4 yearsā
Thatās because he screwed up and extended his contract!
This is why most people are so pessimistic about Sanchez leading the program in the future, there is no sign of identity for the team, we ll know what the system is supposed to look like on the court, Virginia has shown us the format, meticulous, precise offense that controls the pace, and a stingy pack line defense that shuts down dribble penetration, how many times do we see Virginia basketball final scores in the 50s and 60s, they control the offensive pace and force teams defensively to take low percentage perimeter shots, we dont see this system implemented with Sanchez teams, the problem is not the system, the problem is the lack of implementation of the system
I tried to put myself in Mike Hillās shoes and try to formulate a theory as to why he would stick with Sanchez aside from his own determination to validate his overly aggressive and ill advised early extensions.
Best I could come up with is an expansion of ideas already offered: that Young is a fan of RS, and secondly, that perhaps RS believes that there will still be a huge crop of high impact immediately eligible transfers this season as the rosters are still bloated with Covid extra eligiblity players.
And I would have to say thatās about the only thing that could save face at this point: if he keeps Young and somehow finds a way to add 2-3 more players of JYs caliber to the team. Because short of that, next season isnāt going to be any different than this season was, unless itās worse. We are losing Trapp and Butler. At least 1 of those guys is a tough guy to replace already, so youāre already starting in the hole.
Heād better make some serious noise in the portal or Hill looks like heās being a stubborn ass.
we dont see this system implemented with Sanchez teams
I would argue that we saw just a small taste of this in 2019. It appeared to work for him at times. Offense wasnāt good though.
Totally agree. Losing AB, you have to find another glue guy. If we donāt, we will be worse next year.
We are #312 in defensive field goal percentage.
Interesting that North Texas, which has been compared to UVA per defense and pace of game, will be facing the Cavaliers in the NIT this weekend.
I sure am having a good time while watching March madness ā¦NOT!
Hopefully Young liking Sanchez is not enough reason in Hillās eyes to not fire Sanchez. I like Young, but he alone is not a reason to not fire a coach. We finished .500 in a dreadful CUSA.
I think your latter scenario is more likely. Especially if thereās some inside knowledge of a potential significant transfer(Withers).
Iād also say that if you do not include the Covid year, which it seems very likely that Hill is not, we didnāt really fall back. We more or less stayed the same as 2019/20 and heās heading into year 4, rather than year 5.
