The program was dead when Mike was hired. We were 6-23 and won 2 conference games that season. The 2nd worst season in program history. I think the only worse season was back when we were in the Dixie League. I donāt know how anyone can say anything different about where we were at that point. The reason we were at that low point was because Judy made 2 terrible hires.
I didnāt say anything about Mike Hill or Ron Sanchezās performance since that point.
I feel like at this point we have RS for the remainder of his contract. By then weāll have some AAC money to go after a better coach and we can look at the last 8 years as growing pains from having to start completely over with MBB. Weāve gone from wait till next year, to wait till next decade. So it goes.
Next season may be bad enough it forces a change. I could see a Healy like collapse coming for basketball if they donāt pull off a miracle in the portal.
We all probably know well enough how the Sanchez at Charlotte story ends. We have seen it at least twice already; what happens when we hold onto a failed coach too long before making the necessary severance. There are no ārulesā to prevent Hill from changing his apparent mindset to torture all Niners fans another season with Sanchez ball.
Can we all just agree on one thing?? Knowing what we know today, firing Bobby Lutz was a very bad idea.
We have shown exceptional patience for coaches that have never done a d*** thing for this program. Meanwhile, the most successful coach in program history got fired because of a slight decline in his win percentage and showed interest a in P5 job (most likely because he knew he did not have the support of the current administration).
We all seemed to think our success was all because Charlotte basketball had arrived and we did not appreciate the performance of our current coach, myself included to some degree. Another coach would certainly take us to the next level. We have all been eating humble pie ever since. Not sure about the rest of you but my slice tastes like s***.
Better days ahead. I am in this for the long haul.
Alan Major did not have the experience, regional ties, familiarity with the program, charisma, or personality to take over a generally successful basketball program. Why Judy and Phil hired him to replace Lutz is a real head scratcher. He was only here for four seasons whereas Sanchez will be here for at least six seasons.
For what itās worth I think a Major coached team would beat a Sanchez coached team simply because Major didnāt intentionally attempt to limit scoring.
