Sanchez must be as good at selling the shit heās shoveling as he is bad at coaching.
Heās an utter failure and everyone sees it except Mike, Ron, Rons wife, Ted, and dbl.

Yeah, I wonder if Mike read it on the kitchen floor.
Yep, Mike hill is totally doing his best keeping Ron in place⦠Not being subversive at all. Itās clear that we are on a great trajectory. After Ron is cut loose and we hire another completely unproven cuck assistant or some other type of gamble hire, Mikeās gonna be able to squeeze out a total of 11-13 years of suckage and we wonāt have any basketball fans left by the time heās done.

The best way to fix it is to hire the right person for the job. Tired of hearing Ron was great on paper. Maybe that was the case, top assistant at a top program. Your job as AD is to interview him and press him and make sure heās the right guy. Absolutely nothing about him would have told me he was the guy to turn it around.
He doesnāt hold himself accountable and all he has is platitudes and pillars. Itās the total opposite with a guy like poggi. The warning signs have been there since before Ron ever stepped on campus.
Absolutely agree with this. This is probably the worst time in the history of college athletics to have an apathetic fan base & yet here we are doing nothing to change that. Weāre going to get left further behind than we already are if we donāt start competing for conference championships & putting fans back in Halton. If no one cares youāre never going to compete, even with our conference mates, in the NIL world.
I agree central. I know hindsight is 20/20, but even when he was brought in (while I certainly wanted and hoped he would be successful) I was a little unsure-----I always have preferred a guy that has been a Head Coach before. I think THAT is much safer than hiring an assistant, no matter what program the assistant is coming from.
I look at Ron like a bad draft pick. Adam Morrison was going in the top 5. We just happened to be the ones that picked him. But it isnāt like picking him was a crazy idea.
Ron had a lot of schools chasing him. He was widely considered to be the next hot young coach not by just our AD but by others. He had at least two other HC offers when he got ours. We just got unlucky that we won his services. It happens. Anyone that hires people know you can hire some shit candidate and they turn out great or hire a great guy you are convinced will be awesome and they stink it up. It happens.
If Ronās profile was similar to Major and then sucked Iād be far less forgiving. No one thought Allan was ready to step up, not even Thad. Yet we still gave him the keys to what at that time was a car that just needed a tune up. Now we have a car that has a nice paint job but is still shit underneath. Hmmm itās kinda like our program went thru pimp my ride. We got a coffee maker inside we donāt need (CBI) but it still canāt make it out of the parking lot.
Whatās more aggravating with hiring is that when you get it wrong, you have given ample opportunity to fix things and itās clear you got the hire wrong you donāt terminate and move on.
The mistake wasnāt hiring him, the mistake IS keeping him when itās obvious to (almost) everyone that he just isnāt the guy for this job. Itās pretty simple.
clt says audi put a fax machine in a car for execs back in the day
Who were the other schools looking to hire Ron? Didnt remember the names.
Shocking but true.
Iāve said it before and Iāll say it again.
Go to the southern, big south, colonial, Atlantic sun and get a coach on the come up.
Hell go to D2.
I donāt care.
Just get someone who can actually freaking coach and recruit at their current level and has had success.
If we go for another assistant from a big name school when Sanchez is eventually and inevitably fired I think Iām gonna vomit.
I could give two craps about how IMPRESSIVE their P5 experience is.
Give me someone whoās actually been a head coach and had success at some level. Please!!!
I wasnāt told names from our booster. Most schools keep their offerings under the radar so that they can always say they hired their first choice.
Yes, some D2 coaches can make it in D1, but last time we did that proved to be the worst MBB hire we ever made.
That must be really way back.
Iām just saying, Lutz was a head coach at Pfiefer. He knew how to coach. They won.
Give it a shot.
You also might save some money and not have to pay through he nose and you can throw more money at him if he is good.
Only concern with D2 or lower level conference is the NIL and portal reality. Need a coach that understands those things.
Hal Wiesel
The ironic thing about Wissel is that heās the only coach weāve ever hired who actually had any prior experience as a D-I head coach prior to coming to Charlotte from D-II Florida Southern!
Bill Foster was a HS coach and then HC at NAIA Shorter in Georgia before serving as an assistant at The Citadel when he was hired as our very first D-I coach.
Lee Rose was HC at NAIA Transylvania in Kentucky when he replaced Foster. Served a few seasons as coach of the Cincy freshmen basketball team back when frosh were ineligible.
Mike Pratt played a couple of seasons in the now defunct ABA after graduating from Kentucky before landing as an assistant with Rose.
Jeff Mullins was a heralded high school hoopster, college All-American, Olympic gold medalist, and NBA champ but zero coaching experience.
Melvin Watkins was a longtime assistant beginning under Pratt.
Lutz was a HS coach then assistant at Clemson before the D-III Pfeiffer gig. Then a VERY short tenure as HC of Gardner-Webb before joining Mullinsā staff as an assistant.
The rest is recent enough that everyone knows the respective backgrounds of Alan Major, Mark Price, and Ron Sanchez.
Can we trade Sanchez to one of the teams with prior offer for a late third round pick in the portal?
