Add into that apparently Ron turns basketball into some complex sport that is almost impossible to understand and difficult to pick up quickly.
From what Iāve seen, itās no more difficult than any other offense/defense run by most college coaches. Any high school/AAU player that didnāt play team defense or work on any half court offense is going to say what they had to learn to play the college game, with switching defenses and back screens, pick & roll, back cuts, is hard to learn.
When Rick P didnāt get his star guard to follow him to St. John, one of the comments a sport analyst made was that was a blow to him, not having that experience, since his offense & defense were hard to learn.
Hey itās not just me thatās said itās Ron and his players.
Ron also said his team couldnāt play a 2-3 zone because they hadnāt practiced it sooooooo
I know, it just doesnāt seem to be that much different than any switching half-court defense. They just sag back more to, in theory, try to prevent layups.
They layups tend to come when the help, doesnāt.
Hey thatās your coach!
Nope, heās our coach, at least for another year
Well not all of us claim him
Brice literally said in a podcast interview his first two years here he felt like he had never played basketball before because learning Ronās offense was so complicated.
I saw our offenseā¦ā¦not that complicated. It has also evolved over the last year to be a bit more open.
Sure, the guy who played in it for 3 years knows less about the intricacies of it than you do.
Canāt we just all get behind our basketball coach? And swiftly kick his ass out of Charlotte?
Several of the players were always telling Brice that he was in the wrong spot. Patterson, Gipson, and TJ were talking to him in between dead balls telling him where to go
Right. Because it was overly complicated.
Except that certain players knew where to be and others (Williams) did not. So it was overly complicated for him. Some players with extreme athletic talent have trouble fitting into a team.
Not singling out anyone in particular, but just pointing out a generality.
College age guys can be fairly headstrong. Ron is likewise headstrong.
Could say something about the player over the system too. Sometimes players donāt fit the system and that makes it more difficult to adapt. As it was pointed out other players seemed to adapt to it just fine and it didnāt take them three years.
Thatās why he was on the bench at times. It had nothing to do with the offensive end. Though there were times heād drift out of the picture on offense as well.
I think it was the UAB game where for two straight trips down, he posted his man up and scored over top of him. The third time down, he just pulled up for a 15 footer and missed.
I know shooters shoot, but I was also taught that you keep running the same thing till they stop it. We definitely had teams do that to us often enough over the years.
Brice should have left years ago, just like Jahmir wasted his time here. I donāt see why any half decent player would want to play here honestly.
Boring time consuming constricting terrible offense, stupid defense that doesnāt work, terrible in legit post season play, lost almost every important game we play, come out flat regularly, a coach that is happy to throw his players under the bus to the media, same coach is too rigid to adopt his approach todays players and game. - under .500 record in a Bad conference stepping up to a more difficult league.
Iāve never been as down and disillusioned with Niner basketball than I am right now.
All of this. This system isnāt the one to play in if you have pro aspirations. If you want to be a four year player and get your college degree and live a normal life after college, sure.
Then how did the others know???
