Fire Ron Sanchez

Very well stated.

I have to agree that at this point getting Lutz back in any coaching capacity would be a shot in the arm to the fan base. It would be a big local story and it would most likely peek the interest of the fans we have lost the last 10 years.

If we start to write a story like that, I want the story book ending to go with it.

No matter what, the next hire(assuming this season goes the way it might) has to be a home run. If we reboot again and fail, we are done. I’m not sure what is left of our basketball fan base has much more blood to give.

I really hope Coach Sanchez is successful this season. I have been a fan since the Final Four and followed every game since (either at Belk or Halton or on radio or TV). However, if a change is made, Bobby Lutz is the right man for the job. Just watch the Bobby Lutz Story on vimeo.com/259047772.

This thread Is becoming a broken record.

Are you saying we could hire Lutz?

I don’t spend my time researching coaches but there are a lot of d1 conferences out there that some team ends up winning. That’s Mike Hills job to figure out who he can add $500k+ to some coaches current salary and hire them away. There’s a step ladder that the money follows.

If you want to hire a P5 Coach with tourney success you better get your big boy checkbook out to pay off Sanchez and OVERPAY that Coach to come to this shit show after 3 consecutive firings ( one mid season).

It’s a pathetic broken record.

Reasons for Lutz:

  • Previous head coaching experience
Look at his previous success at Pfeiffer and Charlotte
Did most of the coaching behind the scenes at NC State. He was well respected while there.
  • Conference tournament wins
  • NCAA tournament experience
  • Lutz proved he could be successful here, big factor. Did it before.
  • Put Lutz in the AAC, similar to CUSA 1.0, and watch him shine. Our move to the A10 had a significant impact. Move Duke and Coach K to the A10 and watch what happens to their program as an example.
  • New school leadership.
Mike Hill and Lutz would immediately align.
Lutz and Gabber would quickly align.
    Tremendous synergy would be created.
New leadership would allow him to coach his style.
  • Immediate impact on our 49er atmosphere, injection of excitement, improved fan experience.
  • Lutz would bring all the experience he had with us before along with what he has gained since. Here’s some names where he has gained experience. Charlotte, Pfeifer, Clemson, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Iowa State, NBA D-League.
  • Lutz has the it factor.
  • Lutz can pick up on the 19 win season he left behind. Don’t forget, same team the next season with a new coach delivered us horrible results.
  • Lutz loves “our” school.
  • Lutz loves this area.
  • Lutz is a Charlotte alumnus.
  • Lutz is extremely well respected in the industry.
  • There is no doubt Lutz knows how to coach. Industry experts attest to his basketball IQ.
  • Lutz knows how to teach.
  • Lutz is a great representative of our program.
  • Lutz would come in with something to prove and would get it done.
  • Lutz is uniquely qualified.
  • Lutz would “want” to be here. Not distracted by looking for his next gig.
  • Sad thing is, I could continue.

Seems to check off all the qualifiers.

If you look at any reasons against Lutz, there is little to no substance behind them. What does it hurt for our leadership to bring him in for a conversation? This would be a sign of Great Leadership. Why not explore all options?

Y’all gotta let Bobby go. He ain’t coming back.

Oh yeah, why not? I see that posted by a handful of people all the time. My question is how the hell do you know?

With all of this ‘Hire Lutz’ buzz on here, does anyone have any idea if a Bobby even wants to coach anymore and if he would even consider coming back to Charlotte as a coach?

You know how hard it is to replace a legend? Might be even harder if that legend is yourself. Expectations for Lutz 2.0 would be off the charts. Why would he want to subject himself to that pressure? We forget that there was a faction wanting him gone when he was here. I doubt our fan base has become more reasonable over time.

Again, any Lutz opposition has no substance. Personally, I am looking for the best way forward, not that I get to make any decisions. I cannot see the opposition to this “suggestion.”

Yep. You are allowed to state your opinion ONCE.

Let me assure you, our fan base has been humbled since his departure.

Serious question, has there ever been a case of a coach that was fired because of performance, to be rehired by the same school at a later time? Who is the Billy Martin of college basketball?
