Football Coach Candidates?

This isn’t just directed at you, but to most on this board. Why would you wish that on someone, and take joy in it? This has an impact on someone’s family, livelihood, mind and life. All because of some football losses? Yes, I understand fans, aka fanatics, get emotional about their schools and sometimes changes need to be made to put all parties in better situations to be successful. Just don’t gloat. WH has done some great things for this university, if what everyone on this board wants does in deed happen, I will thank him and wish him well in the future.
It’s just football, some some human decency.

Sorry, but I totally agree with Charlotte2019. Healy is PAID to do a job and so far he has failed. He, I agree is a great individual but with coaching at this level, he is way over his head and has proven he has much to learn. Not sure what great things he has done for the university. And yes, when he does go, I truly hope he has a great future. College football is now big business and like a big business cannot compete and succeed you are let go. Harsh , but that is now our way of life.

Dude, the guy gets paid to win football games. He gets paid a lot of money to do that and will receive a big ole buyout when he’s fired and then he will move down the road and be on Dabos staff at Clemson, make good money there and rebuild his rep and career. Book it, it’ll happen.

All coaches figure on getting fired at some point.

As far as taking joy in it? I think we all wish we were on our way to a 8-4 season and not be having these convos. But sorry, the bleeding heart stuff doesn’t fly.

I don’t like being nasty, but these guys aren’t like us (well most of us anyway). Even a guy like Healy will make more in a 4-5 yr stint as HC at Charlotte (eg $4,000,000) than a lot of our fans will make in a long working career. Don’t even get me started on how much more a low level P5 coach makes. So, I have a little less sympathy for them. It’s a high stakes game, but they tend to get taken care of financially. It’s usually more of an ego thing for them, and the wives tend to know what they are signing up for in terms of moving around every few years.

It’s the low paid assistants that I have more sympathy for. They are more ham & eggers, like most of us.

I mean his job is to win football games. That is his number one priority. Anyone who doesn’t take care of top priorities at their job will most likely be fired. Especially in his occupation. If he is fired today he will have earned nearly $4 million from this job. He should be alright.

These guys (HCs) usually have enough pay and buyout to not be destitute in a few months of unemployment and usually have at least a few backup job options waiting on the day they are let go. It’s not like real life where most live paycheck to paycheck.

I obviously don’t want it to be a bad experience for his family, but when we have a defense that has given up the second most amount of points per game in the country, you can’t expect anything else. The reason I was hoping to see him fired is that I want to see a signal from the school that they are not accepting this performance. We need to show some spine here. We also need to keep in mind that Hill is not an idiot and I am sure he has a reason for his actions, or lack thereof. Time will tell. I don’t think there is any way out of this for Healy and I hope he can take one step back to take two steps forward.

Our last game of the season is November 19th that really isn’t that far away. You’ll hear something it is just a matter of time.

Circling back to Skip Holtz, I wanted to make a point about him:

That’s a pretty good run at La Tech.

However, going off the top of my head, I cannot remember a single season where they had a good defense. I was looking for a site where you could look where they ranked in team defense from 2013 through 2021… But my recollection is that his formula to win was to build on a transfer QB (usually from a school like Florida), and win shootouts… something we are mimicking minus the whole winning part. And while his teams weren’t good defensively, they usually weren’t literally bottom of FBS bad like we are right now.

Anyways, I don’t know that he is the answer for what ails us unless he can bring in someone who can recruit and coach defense too.

We are going to need both though. We have to do darn near an entire reboot on offense as well.

Thank you @Charlotte2019 I am not disagreeing with anything you, or for that matter, anyone else that replied is saying. I originally just wanted to remind everyone, lives and families will be impacted. Decisions and comments like this shouldn’t be taken lightly. I do find it interesting that all replies, except yours, focused on money, when I never mentioned anything about money.

clt says we need a clone of Leipold

If we do end up getting a new coach this offseason can we please go with someone that has won some FBS football games, I’m tired of hiring assistants and those that haven’t won at our level… doesn’t seem like it’s that hard to do but we have messed it up big time multiple times over the last 10 years…

If you guys landed skip that would be a home run hire. You guys talk about needing a coach who understands how to rebuild a program, and I promise you ECU was in just as bad of shape as charlotte is currently when he took over. John Thompson who was Skip’s predecessor had won 2 games the previous two seasons. He has fbs experience, he’s a proven winner at this level, has overseen numerous stellar college level quarterbacks, and is it true he’s actually living in Charlotte? If mike Houston left us tomorrow I’d want Skip back. Mike Hill would be an absolute dumb ass to not have Skip sitting on his short list right now.

I agree. I think Skip would be a great hire. Both His son AND daughter are currently employed in our AD.
