here's something for ya: a professor today, in the middle of his lecture stopped and asked, "can anyone think of anything stupider than UNCC getting a football team?" about 5 students got up and left right then.
I got that update too, Gill.
Oh, and finally, Jim is at the hospital as we speak having his son. I guess little Jarvis Lang Duncan couldnât wait to vote.
49or bust, I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.
My own line of reasoning is to myself as straight and clear as a ray of light. If a professor is to ask if âanyone can think of anything stupider than UNCC getting a football teamâ, and thus to bind me in all cases whatsoever to his absolute will, am I to suffer it? What signifies it to me, whether he who does it is a professor or a common man; my countryman or not my countryman; whether it be done by an individual villain, or an army of them? If we reason to the root of things we shall find no difference; neither can any just cause be assigned why we should punish in the one case and pardon in the other.
Let them call me rebel and welcome, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul by swearing allegiance to one whose character is that of a sottish, stupid, stubborn, worthless, brutish man. I conceive likewise a horrid idea in receiving mercy from a being, who at the last day shall be naked and shrieking to the rocks and mountains to cover him, and fleeing with terror from the Charlotte Football Initiative.

Q: What kind of football team would Charlotte get?
Division 1AA or 1A. Because we currently compete in the Division I level, we can not move down to Divisions II or III.
That is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. It doesnât matter what division you play at in every sport. There are a lot of schools who play down in some sports but up in others. Big time hockey schools like UAA play D1 hockey but if they were to go up in basketball from D3 they would get stomped. As is they host a tourny every Thanksgiving with D1 basketball and get destroyed yet every year you can find them as one of the best D1 hockey schools. So to say we couldnât play down is retarded. I think D1 AA is the best suit for wanting to build and eventually move to D1 but D2 wouldnât be a bad option either. Just because you are a division down doesnât mean you arenât as good as the D1 guys. And if you donât believe that then you donât follow enough sports because there are plenty of players that play down to get the top starting spots rather then being the 3rd or 4th best out of the starters. Just look at cross country times.

Um, no. We cannot cross out of Division 1. When we get football, it will be D1-AA. Cannot start D1-A. It makes no sense and it may not even be allowed.
Wasnt my class. It was some Russian I believe tho.
ha, that was my class. He said it was stupid for us to get football. One person quietly said they liked football and most others kept quiet. One or two also spoke against it because it would raise their tuition. Nobody left class.

Did your professor actually use the word âstupider?â

You can not play down a level in basketball or football. Added sports compete in the division other sports currently compete in. D-I basketball teams can play up to four teams that are not Division I teams. Division I-AA football teams must play at least half of their games against I-A or I-AA teams, for I-A itâs 60%.
From the NCAA BylawsâŚ
20.4.1 Multidivision â Classification Options. A member institution may have a sport classified in a division other than the one in which it is a member only in the following circumstances:
20.4.1.1 Division I Member. A member of Division I may petition to be classified in football in Division I-A or Division I-AA. (Revised: 1/10/91 effective 9/1/93, 4/28/05)
20.4.1.2 Divisions II and III Members â Classification of a Sport in Division I. A member of Division II or Division III may petition to be classified in Division I in any one menâs sport, other than football or basketball, and in any one womenâs sport, other than basketball, and in any single sport in which the only NCAA championships opportunity is the National Collegiate
Championship. In addition, a member of Division II may be classified in Division I in a sport in which there is a Division I and a Division III championship, but no Division II championship.
(Revised: 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94)
Again being uninformed, hurts both sides of the argument.
Did your professor actually use the word "stupider?"
It wasn't my class. I just heard the story. Apparently it was RWorkmans, tho I don't understand how the story could have gotten messed up that fast in the time it took to get to me. Maybe there were two asshole communists bad mouthing football.

I work with two Dayton grads and they both say they play D-III football. How is that?
Actually, from their website, it looks like they are in the same league as Davidson (Pioneer League). Is that D-III? What am I missing?
The PFL, a non-scholarship NCAA Division I-AA football conference, is one of only three conferences that sponsor football as its only sport (the Gateway Football Conference and Great West Football Conferences being the others). However, the PFL is a truly national conference with members on each coast and throughout the nationâs heartland. The league still retains four of its charter members â Butler University, the University of Dayton, Drake University and Valparaiso University, plus the University of San Diego (joining in 1992) â which were joined in 2001 by four new teams, three of which remain today â Davidson College, Jacksonville University and Morehead State University.
