You get a phone call from a friend (and golfing buddy) asking if you can come post bond to get him out of jail. Since he is a good friend, you go post bond for him. He is in your car as you drive away from the jail and he notices a brand new set of golf clubs in the back of your car and says he’s always wanted a set of those.
You get to his house and he asks you to wait for him. He goes inside and then gets back in the car and asks you if you can take him somewhere else. As you are driving down the road, he pulls a gun on you and takes your money and those new golf clubs he wanted.
I’m a little shocked that some of you condone this kind of behavior.
Is driving while staggering drunk legal where you live?
He wasn’t just drunk, he could hardly even stand up, and that was his second DUI. The video has been removed from most sites now, but it’s not something you want a prospective recruit to see, and definitely not something you want to see from a coach who is recruiting your son. But hey, some people would be okay with rape and murder from their coach so long as he won games.
You are equating rape and murder with a DUI? I have heard that moral indignation is jealousy with a halo.
At least you are not holding a grudge on the whole Beasley thing.
I would not want him as a coach but I don’t think he is the anti-christ either.

I was simply making a statement that some folk’s line for what they will tolerate is a heluva lot farther than others (and where it should be). Way to totally miss that, meathead.
I would just think that a coach verbally saying he doesn’t care about academics and posting a 0% graduation rate would get you put on some sort NCAA watch list or something.
I think there is years of hatred coloring the thinking of a lot of people when it comes to Huggins.
I can understand it, I just don’t share the opinion. He’s never been investigated by the NCAA for a reason.
Yeah- there’s a reason, he throws his asst coaches under the bus.
For the record I think he’s a great coach. But I think he’s a douche, not b/c of Beasley- that’s just bigtime athletics these days. Billy Donovan is the biggest contacted of “committed” recruits in the biz. Just listen to him talk, he’s a jerkoff who thinks he’s above it all.
But let me say this, charcater has nothing to do with anything. Cal, Hugs, etc are slimy as hell but they make millions b/c they win.
Truth be told, Roy is probably as clean as anyone, I just threw up a bit in my mouth.
Hell, even K is foul-mouthed yankee prick by most accounts, but the Dukies don’t care b//c he’s getting ready to win #4.
I really think you could blame our Athletic Department, Delonte Hill, and Huggy… how much percenatge you put on any of the three depends on what you consider “bad” or “over the line”
Everyone in the country knew that Beasley was going to go wherever Hill was… you would think we would put something in his contract as soon as they changed the NBA rule (I’ve read somewhere that Beasley really wasn’t even going to play in college but they changed the rule so he had too and he was going to follow Hill and play for a year to help him out) The AD should have known that we need to keep Hill here if we wanted to keep Beasley, put some sort of clause in his contract about going to another school or something, I think we handled that poor.
Now think about this, if you work for a company and you like where you are, but let’s say another company comes along and says, “we will double your salary if you come work for us” If you like the company you work for, wouldn’t you at least tell them that they are making you an offer to pay you a lot more… give them a chance to match? He didn’t do that, and to add insult he left a message saying he was leaving… I think that’s pretty messed up to do to a place that gave you 2 second chances. (Talking about Hill)
So now on Huggy… I’m sure he went to the KSU AD and said if we get Hill here we have a top 5 recruit next year gauranteed… all they had to do is write the check… is that messed up? I guess it depends on who you ask, I think it kind of is but I also think if the other two players (Hill and our AD) did their end it wouldn’t have come to that.
Thanks, EE. The fact only one person replied to this gives me the impression Powerbait has.
To me, what Huggins did with Beasley was just business if what you have stated is as far as it went.
(Off topic, but Hill sounds like a douche for resigning in a weird way twice and our AD should have done more to keep him here if Beasley was so important. Maybe they didn’t think he was.)

I am SOOO sick of this revisionist history. Beasley was NOT even on the map when Lutz gave Hill a job, as he had done previously with former players (ie; Dee Tolliver). Bobby did NOT give Hill the job because of Beasley. Beasley was not well known (certainly not a to-rated player) at the time Hill was hired.
However, it is clear that Huggins DID 100% unequivocably hire Hill to get Beasley. It was the 11th hour and Beasley was a top 5 player coming out. Again, keep in mind (as someone posted above) that all this came on the heels of Lutz going out of his way to “stand up” for Huggins during his trouble. This was Huggs thank you. I actually liked Huggins during our rivalry years, but after the Beasley/Hill back-stabbing I no longer respected him as a person.
Also, they didn’t double his salary initially. It was MORE than doubled later though. Initially, he left for ~what he was making here although I’m sure they “promised him more down the road”.

I was talking about as far as basketball is concerned.
But since you insist, Plenty of people make mistakes and change. Just because someone gets a DUI doesn’t mean that they aren’t capable of changing or that they’ll be that way forever.
X has a rather stringent moral compass. If you make a mistake in any capacity, especially if you repeat it, you’re a scumbag forever.
I don’t pretend like Huggins is a saint. He’s a D-1 basketball coach, so I would imagine he is fiercely competitive and very arrogant (all of them are, especially if they have any measure of success). He probably also thinks he is slightly invincible.
But, he is a hell of a coach, and has never come close to sanctions in his time at any school. He took a lot of questionable kids at Cincy, but that was because they were the best players he could get. I am positive that the NCAA would have loved to have busted a guy like Huggins, he hurts the image of the league as being all about student athletes.
How much of that is on him, and how much of that is on the University for allowing them to become students. If he is payed to do a job, I would imagine he would try to do the best job he can do within the confines he is given.

True, as long as they didn't make that a known reason. Plenty of other coaches aren't too good about helping out the student athlete image, but then again I guess Huggy was near the worst of the worst at least for a while.
Pending what you’ve done, yes. I just don’t get why people give passes to coaches/athletes because they win games. I was being extreme with my murder/rape example earlier, but I was trying to make a point. He doesn’t get that “second chance” in real life without spending some time in the trenches working his way back up and showing he is truly sorry. If Huggy were somebody applying for any other job, does he get hired to a high profile position with two DUI’s on his resume? Would you hire him? Would you want him teaching your kids? I’m all for giving people second chances when/if they show some sincere remorse, but he has shown none that wasn’t staged and is still an arrogant asshole who does think he’s “invincible”.
"We all have one thing in common," says (Joe) Mazzulla. "We're all trying not to get yelled at by Huggs."
That’s one heck of a reason to play college basketball. Makes me want to regain my eligibility so I can play for him.

See I hate this argument, because it is full of crap.
If that same person was in the top 1% of his profession, then yes he would get another shot and another shot and another shot. You can’t compare these coaches or athletes who are elite to the average joe trying to get an office job who likes to drink and drive too much.

I know man, people are just fucking lining up to hire high level executives, teachers, and engineers who just got their 2nd DUI. They are in high fucking demand. :))
Teachers, no, but high level execs and engineers wouldn’t even come under fire for it. I know people who have gotten more than 2 DUIs and they are working service industry jobs. Still employed.
