Was this guy ranked by any of the recruiting services?

Scout.com has him as a 2 star recruit, spelled his last name wrong (Anderson) and don't show his commitment to us yet.

I’m gathering, by what you’re telling me is that this guy is probably a Top 250-300 (maybe) recruit at best. Hopefully he’s a diamond in the rough, but this one doesn’t get me real excited. Sounds like Chris Sager or Dee Tolliver reincarnated. Maybe a GPA thing.

i think he is better than what we think he is. For the main reason that he played in the adisas summer camps with beasley and company. I’m sure that also affected his choice in coming here

Walk-ons are for GPA boosts. You don't get an early verbal committment for GPA reasons, especially when we are still on some much higher profile players lists. Also we just signed Tatum and Dewhurst, Anderson will bring something to the table, otherwise we wouldn't have kept going after Andersen.

Lutz and company are great at recognizing talent, if they were high enough on this guy to bring him in after those two other wingmen, then he will be useful to the team. If we got him late in the recruiting process(like next Spring) then I would be skeptical(Tyler Best), but at this point he is going to help us out.

Just curious, what were Jobey and Plavich rated out of high school? I can’t imagine many people rating those guys very high, Andersen seems like he could be the shooter for us in a few years like those guys were.

Also, I have to imagine(hope) that the coaches know a little bit more about Bennett’s appeal situation than people here do. I don’t think there’s any way they would have gotten all three of these SG/SF’s while only having one scholarship left and only 2 big men coming back. I know we’ve been stuck playing people out of position before, but only three players possibly over 6’7" is a little sketchy. Just seems like they are going on the assumption that we still have 2 left for 06…just my thoughts though. Then again they may consider Mullis a solid option backing up the PF spot, in that case we have 3 low post players for 06…who knows.

First of wall, I was joking about the GPA. I realize the value of walk-ons. As far as Plavich and Thomas go…Plavich was a Top 50 recruit out of Georgia originally recruited by Ga Tech. Jobey Thomas was hovevering around the 90-102 range. So pretty much everyone knew about them.

Thanks, I was just curious. I'm still excited about Andersen though, I think he will be good for the team if the coaches believe in him. I hope his stock rises over this upcoming year, that would make me feel better about him, but he still sounds good to me.

More on Andersen…

Another quality western wing heads east…

OREGON CLASS OF 2006: COMBO GAURDS

Said he wants to be the next Danny Ainge, I’d take that

I would take the next Joby Thomas. :stuck_out_tongue:

This kid is Ned Flanders-ripped and wears goggle glasses.
I like how he flies under the radar and how Coach appreciates him.
Like Lutz, this kid is a relentless self-improver.
I say bring him the hell on.
For what it’s worth, I’ve got a feeling… this kid might be seriously dangerous.

My sources close to the program tell me they expect Ian to be a Jobey type player and feel he is the type of player that fits perfectly into our system.

Of course every white shooting guard is going to be ā€œJobey likeā€. See Chris Sager and Plavich, people said the same about them. I hope Anderson is good, but to be Jobey like is a pretty high bill considering he was one of the best SG’s the school has had, broke conference records, school records (including one of Henry William’s), and had one of the fastest shot releases in the nation, always gave 110% on the court, and worked harder than anyone off the court. To be ā€œJobey likeā€ truly would be something extraordinary and we would get one of the best competitors in Niner History.

ok deep throat.

had 33 points last night (avg. 24 a game now). I have been reading some forum over at Oregonlive.com. apparently he is on a terrible team but people seem to say he is an amazing player. They said his heart and knowledge of the game cant even be measured. One guy even said that the coach just sits down when he is out there b/c it is ian’s team.

a TRUE leader?! wow. sign me up.

When he was here for his visit, he carried his basketball everywhere he went. Everywhere. He’s a west coast guy but works his ass off in the gym like Leemire does.

Had 25 of his teams 51 points in a win last night

he had 24 last night he is second in his league for PPG.

had 27 and a few huge rebounds last night. Apparently needs to work on his ball handling according to somethings i have read. I imagine he is the only kid on his team so he probably gets doubled at times.
