Iti's transferring

Originally posted by LeftyNiner@May 3 2005, 10:24 PM I don't think he was a bad kid as someone else said. He did his own thing and never bought into the program. I do think his teammates grew tired of him and is best that he's moving on. Certainly seemed like he had the potential to be a good player. I hope things work out for him, somewhere.
Well put.

Nance was better. It says a lot when the Back-Up Center plays more than the Starting Center.

Guys his size are coveted and tough to come by but I'd by lying if I said I was going to lose sleep over this. Hope he does well wherever he ends up but I just don't consider this a big loss for us. I just don't care for another "black eye" on the program which is what I consider this...when a player transfers as a result of not being happy.

I think I will gain some sleep over this.

This is great news becauseā€¦

A- he was a cancer(maybe not in the way Grier was, butā€¦)

B- I saw very little potential in him

goldwire is a pg not a sg

BTW, I donā€™t think he is really either of these. He is a Demon Brown clone that gives a little more effort on the defensive side of the ball. He is no point guard for sureā€¦poor court vision, shaky ball handler and not a great desicion maker, so far.

but he is also just a freshman give him time it does take point guards a year or two before they become great point guards. Bobby will get him in the right mold here sooner or later.

I also find it pointless to move lee to the two spot considering marcus will start there next year with jerrell backing him up. we donā€™t need to be three deep on the two spot. plus its almost too late to recruit any GREAT pgā€™s ne ways.

Just read the Roy Williams Observer, and I have to say that I grinned an evil grin. I know I was a Martin defender by often writing that he needed time to develop. I am relieved however. He wasnā€™t any good. A liabillity on the court. Let him learn how to play the game at community college. From now on I will call a bust an Iti.

Who Itiā€™ed the balloons?
Chris Weinke was a real Iti for the Panthers draft.
Key West or Iti!
Ralph Wiggum: "I Itiā€™ed my Wookie."
Hoover dam Itiā€™ed and killed everyone in Nevada.
After looking at all that porn, Iā€™m going to go Iti a nut!
My dogā€™s name is Buster but I wonā€™t call him Itiā€™er. Maybe I will.

See ya!! Itā€™s now time to party. ITi was terrible.

I heard that he was going to tranfer to West Charlotte or Providence HS. He hasnā€™t made a definite decision yet though.

His scoring production will be greatly missed. Iā€™m glad this embarrasment to our program is gone!!! Someone else can now worry about him now.

My sig says it all!!!

Yeah, but you either have raw PG skill in you or you do not and he just doesnā€™t.

My prediction is that he will struggle with that position just as Demon did and, unless moved to the two, as Bobby suggested, we will go without a real PG during his time here.

Lewis wonā€™t play much if any 2 guard and Bennett only has one year of elegibility. I would expect LG to be splitting time at the 2 guard spot his jr and sr years and playing little, if any point.

this is ridiculous how some of u are celebrating him leaving. we just lost a 7-0 guy with potential. he wasent a cancer to the team so at worst hes another body to take pressure off curtis and make nance more effective when they come in. im extremely dissapointed that hes leaving.

Have you watched the last two years? Potential? Are you kidding meā€¦
Iti stunk it up, realistically we all should be able to admit that. He was a major disappointment, who lacks the attitude and passion to do anything about it. Why shouldnā€™t we celebrate, we are getting rid of the type of player that has been a problem for us the past couple of yearsā€¦lazy, poor attitude, and a complete liability on the court. I for one feel this is the best piece of news this Year!!!

:toast: See ya Iti

Iti made a lot of people angry by not performing up to the scouting sites' expectations.

Only one site really thought he was worth a shit (espn.com) and they just take shots in the dark on guys.
It is scary how poorly Bobby evaluated this guy.

Funny how towards the end of the season when I made a negative comment about Iti I got jumped on for badmouthing a current player. Now that heā€™s finally announced that heā€™s leaving, AGAIN, everyone else jumps on the ā€œDislike Itiā€ bandwagon. Did you all not see this coming forever ago? Personally, I say, See Ya  Donā€™t let the door hit ya on the way out.

Folks, never underestimate this woman. She may be CLASSLESS around coachesā€™ wives but sheā€™s a die hard Niner!

And that's OPPOSING Coaches Wives, by the way... Just to clear any possible confusion. :D

While most people do not like Iti or talk about how he lacked enthusiam or the drive to succeed, do we have anyone on the bench that knows how to coach a big man? It seems we only like to hang around the arch. Withers as good as he is has his flaws - point in case the NC State game when he was double teamed. There needs to be some focus on hand drills, foot drills, and some confidence on the block. Every game the first play should be a high low set pound it inside. I bet 9 times our of 10 we would score and/or get fouled.

Iti shot like 51% from the field only making 60 something field goals and like 38 of those were dunks. There were times when he would get the ball on the block and wouldnt even look to the basket - just pass it back out to a 3 brick from half court. That is because no one gave him the confidence to be a force in the middle.

What does coach say in the huddle to everyone - okay lets go shoot 3s and only 3s that is the only way we will win?

I attribute Itiā€™s poor play to the team on the bench for not giving him the confidence to want to succeed.

Kinda hard to have confidence in your shots when you have to worry about the Rim blocking your WIDE OPEN dunks!

I agree that we are poor at developing big men, but thereā€™s not much you can do with Iti. You canā€™t make chicken salad out of chicken shit. The talent was just not there. I bet there was a lack of effort on Itiā€™s part as well.

For a kid who didnā€™t play basketball all his life (and if he did, it was overseas/in the midst of transfers), I thought Iti had some potential. He could pass w/in the post and you canā€™t teach his length.
That said, he wasnā€™t a beast, he wasnā€™t real aggressive and he lacked fundamentals in the worst way. Iā€™d like to see guys like this hang around and buy into the program and get better, but it seems like most of them just want to leave. I guess thatā€™s the way it is with most players who are just looking for PT.

Not real disappointed to see him go, but would have been interesting to watch him develop, had he made a solid attempt to do so. Bring on Coleman/Jamison/Nance, the three headed C.
