Jamar Briscoe - Guard - 2010

Right, because Dijuan hasn't developed into much of a pg. And Leemire never really developed into much after his freshman year.

How’s Dijuan’s jumper treating him?

I like the kid, but don’t act like he’s grown by leaps and bounds. He takes care of the ball like a decent point should.

Eddie didn't develop either....

Or Bennett, or Coleman, or Williams (both), or Ian, or Coley, or Lewis, or Plavich, or I can keep going…

Phil Jones is awesome, what is wrong with you?

Thanks PB.

Phil hasn’t developed to a decent consistent starting center option. Sorry.

Thanks PB.

Look at him last year compared to his first, he was better at everything.

I was being serious, I think Phil is awesome. No sarcasm.

I was being serious, I think Phil is awesome. No sarcasm.
During the 1st year Phil played, I stated he would become a very valuable all-around player for us. I'm not changing my stance. And I like his attitude.

Don’t forget Jobey, Demon, and Withers. Those guys were scrubs, too.

And how is Plavich a project? Transferred from the SEC. Like calling Spears a project. We knew what we were getting.

plavich didnt transfer from the sec. he originally signed with georgia tech but never went there.
plavich didnt transfer from the sec. he originally signed with georgia tech but never went there.
He played at Vanderbilt for two years.
He played at Vanderbilt for two years.
my bad. i forgot that.

I think this is an excellent addition. This kid can really score the ball.

Why are we knocking Big Phil or Dumptruck. Big Phil paid his own way for a year in order to come play here. Dumptruck lost like 40 lbs. Those aren’t slackers.

If we’re gonna call out Niners…call out the chowder heads and quitters like Carlos Williams, Gerrity or the students who don’t show up to the game. Don’t call out the guys who busted their tails off for this program. Makes us seem unappreciative and spoiled like some of our neighbors to the Northeast.

And Sager, and Butter, and Grier… I can keep them coming too.

IMO, I’d add Baldwin. Had lots of hype, started to get better, but then was injured and never recovered and regressed. To me he never fully developed.

I didn’t call Plavich a project, I said he didn’t developed. He was the same player his two years and his red shirt year. He shot from 3, never developed a head fake, or the ability to have a decent post entry pass (which should be a pre-req. for someone with such an a good shot), and for a shooter, wasn’t equally as good from the stripe. He was completely one dimensional and never developed further.

Look at him last year compared to his first, he was better at everything.

His playing time saw increases too. I still don’t think he has done substantially enough to say he has developed. He still lacks any reliable post moves.

I’m not saying we do not have good players, but the amount of players who develop more facets to their game doesn’t happen often, or enough.

i like the enthusiasm.

His playing time saw increases too. I still don't think he has done substantially enough to say he has developed. He still lacks any reliable post moves.

His playing time increased by 50% but his points increased by more than 100. His FG% went up by 15% and his FT% went up by 17%. That is improvement. I agree with you about the post moves though. His ball handling/catching/agressiveness didn’t improve though which I think explains his lack of post moves. Hopefully he is working on that this summer as well as getting in better physical condition. I am very excited about Big Phil.

Big Phil next season is going to look a lot different than last season’s Big Phil. You can hold it to me later, I think he explodes this year. He’s working harder in the off season than he has in the past, lost the extra pounds. I think he has caught the intensity of Harris and Spears, and his passion to succeed will match theirs.

I think it is a little disingenuous to call this kid an all-american. I think he is a great fit for our program and he is probably going to be a special player. I can see a guy like this blowing up at Charlotte, especially if we have a legit PG so he can slide to his more natural 2 guard position.

I think Phil Jones is a really solid low post presence. I think if he has two more years he can become a really good low post presence. Not many teams have that size.

what the hell...
Did you think I was kiding? Briscoe is a legitimate all-american go to the website and check for yourself.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - North Carolina Central University guard Jamar Briscoe has added another honor to his long list of accolades from his rookie season, this time being named to the Inaugural BoxToRow.com/BASN Black College Men’s Division I All-America Basketball Team.

He scored more than 20 points in a game 11 times, including five games with 30 or more. Here are a few of Briscoe’s top performances: 37 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals vs. Longwood (Feb. 28); 28 points, 4 assists, 4 steals at North Carolina State (Feb. 3); 34 points, 3 assists at Duquesne (Dec. 22); 24 points, 3 assists, 2 steals at Arkansas (Dec. 10); 34 points at Longwood (Feb. 25); 32 points vs. Chicago State (Jan. 10); 31 points vs. Chowan (Jan. 17); 19 points at South Carolina (Dec. 16); 18 points at No. 21 Wake Forest (Nov. 14); 18 points at Kansas State (Feb. 17); 28 points vs. Savannah State (Jan. 31); 26 points vs. High Point (Dec. 3).
Briscoe has also been honored as the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division I Men’s Basketball National Rookie of the Year and the NCAA Division I Independent Newcomer of the Year, while being named to the NCAA Division I All-Independent Team, the CollegeInsider.com Freshman Mid-Major All-America Team, and the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State Team.
The Eagles finished their second year of Division I competition with an overall record of 4-27, including a season-ending victory over rival Winston-Salem State in the MEAC Tournament “Bonus Game” on March 14.

I am not doubting that those publications honored him as such, and I am glad we have a guy like that here playing for Lutz. Especially considering he is paying his own way a year. But, all-american has certain implications and I don’t think we should be advertising him as an all-american until he is honored by the AP.
