January 2026 College Football Transfer Portal

What’s wrong with App right now? Was there a portal exodus and if so why?

For what I hear, players don’t like the coach. Also, app can’t give more nil than the schools they’re losing most of their best guys to. Their best corner just took an OV to us, fwiw

There is no way I would make fun of App football.

The heck if I wouldn’t.

I will when we start bearing them. Until then, I’ll make fun of all of their other deficiencies

Perhaps more interesting: Baker says the FBS transfer portal has seen 23% fewer entrants as last year.

Things are really looking up

No impact from Covid era eligibility running out?

That is what I assumed the cause would be. The 5 year players aging out.

Yikes…

If you get down to the D2/D3 level, it’s truly abysmal. Feel sorry for so many of these kids. Between the bad advice and being forced out… They end up being completely out of the game and likely out of an education too.

That’s misleading (and Marler knows it) since the window is the time period during which players can request that their names be entered into the portal. Finding a landing spot has no fixed timeline, though no denying earlier the better for most.

And, of course, a number of players are “forced” into the TP for various reasons. Coaches - for the most part - don’t want multi-year scholarships so they can cut players with impunity.

Players fought to be able to leave with impunity, so they opened up that can of worms. Very few coaches were forcing players out of scholarships before this portal insanity started. Now they have to focus more on immediately improving their rosters and can’t afford to waste a roster spot on a developmental player who may never contribute. The players wanted this to be a business, so they will have to deal with the business like consequences.

Coaches - no matter the sport - have been forcing players out long before the TP gave them cover to do so.

Not at the current rate

Correct ….. nothing close to this.

App State took in 59 new players. If their coach can get that many new players to mesh and work together, he will be moving up quickly.

Any D1 school can take in 59 new players. We’ve pointed out there will be quite a few players in the portal that never go anywhere. Question is are they any good? I look at that number as App struggling under their new coach. First they would have to lose a lot of players to have that many spots available. They lost 2 good ones to us.

This is interesting.

Bunch of people knee jerking because they don’t realize that’s little bro and not the Heisman winner.

Seems like a big get for Ga Tech. I figured that he would stick around to play for Cignetti.

Don’t blame him for transferring after older brother won both the Heisman and the CFP. Plus he wasn’t the heir apparent as starting QB anyway. Most likely that will be ex-TCU signal caller Josh Hoover.
