The article also said he chose us over Wake, College of Charleston, Richmond, and Furman. Itās good to finally beat Wake out for a recruit.

Great news!!! Is he the son of the Reverend James āStop the Violenceā Barnett? Rev Barnett has quite a colorful past in Charlotte. At any rate, Iām glad to see weāve got another talented 2 star perimeter guy. We need more of those.
I hope he isnāt a guy that just had one big game at the Bojangles. Some people I have talked to that saw him play say that he hasnāt been too impressive in some of the games they saw. Keep our fingers crossed.

worst case scenario the guy is a gpa booster. but it seems like this guy has the ability to be a big contributer down the road. oh iād also like to mention this guy is a show stopper when he gets the chance.

AAU does great things for your exposure, but horrible things for your game.
I disagree to some extent. I have a younger brother whos a Jr. thats 6ā7" and growing - and his AAU coach last summer made the kid do a complete 180 - maybe its just his lack of good coaching before, but through AAU he got the confidence to shoot the 3 and double hand jam over kids. So no, I dont necessarily think AAU does horrible things to your game, plus some of the best team work Iāve ever seen has been at AAU games - and trust me, Iāve been to a TON.

Reminds me of Leemire with the show stopping quality. I agree that Iām not real sure about his reliability right now, but thatās really how we ought to be with everyone until they suit up.
AAU is very good for kids from smaller towns. It helps them play with a greater level of talent around them, and a greater amount of talent against them.

well in the dunk contest he was the guy that came out in his warm ups and threw down like it was the end of the world. EVERYONE was getting hyped up about this kid in the shootout.

He is only averaging 14 ppg and I am guessing that includes his shootout numbers. Not too impressive of numbers for a kid who is a perimeter "shooter"with defensive and ballhandling deficiencies. I guess only time will tell. In this day and time I guess you have to roll the dice if you are signing a kid in the spring for the following season. Maybe he will keep growing 3 or 4 more inches.

I think when there is talent in your hometown, and other suitors are taking notice, you have to grab him. Maybe he pans out, maybe he is just a good 6ā5" shooting guard that helps you in practice to pepare your SG for height of defenders. Maybe he helps you get into the Victory Christian program.
I donāt know what to expect, but when tournament time came around, he came up big.

The only problem with that is we have too many wasted scholarships on our roster. I know you need role players but from what I have seen I do not know if some of our scholarship players are D1 talent.

Like Jcl always says, high school stats donāt mean much, we will know this fall if he can play division 1 ball, and like you said with any recruit its really a roll of the dice.
