Do you guys realize what thread youāre posting in?
'Fraid so. Another thread hijacked.
To be honest I have a hard time using my smartphone on this website, though I do see New Topic now. Iāll use it next time it is needed.
And while I am posting - I will start a new thread.
Tepper says he is ācontractually obligatedā to keep the statue up.
Iām guessing a similar contract was signed regarding the naming rights on our stadium.
Letās hope it was only on the sale of Panthers, unless Jerry eventually saw all of this coming to light.
According to WFNZ, Tepperās comment merely meant that itās not his decision, itās the cityās. He know owns the stadium, but the city owns the land. The statue is not in the stadium.
To make a long story short, I think the comment was Tepperās way of staying out of an issue that is not his problem.

On new #Panthers owner David Tepper being contractually obligated to keep Jerry Richardsonās statue in place: Source says it was included in the contract terms presented to all the bidders by the sellerās lawyer. ⦠Sounds like it was non-negotiable.
So, a couple questions. What type of consequence could one expect if breaking a clause in a contract such as this? And, since the Panthers donāt actually own the land, could the city not require the statue be removed? Donāt really care either way besides the fact that I think itās an eyesore.
Unless Iāve been mistaken for the past 23 years, the Panthers (i.e. Tepper) own the stadium and the land it sits on. The money the city gave Richardson/Panthers for upgrades did not confer any equity stake.
Recent articles Iāve read mention that the Panthers own the stadium but lease the land from the city. Perhaps Iāve read something incorrect.
I check Polaris just now and youāre right. Panthers own the facility, city leases the land to the Panthers.
Itās leased for a dollar a year Iām pretty sure.
Maybe somebody will forget to pay the dollar and the stadium becomes the property of the city since moving it would seem to be a bit much. Lease it back to the team for whatever but let the city own the land and the buildings.
