Jerry Richardson fallout

Do you guys realize what thread you’re posting in?

'Fraid so. Another thread hijacked.

To be honest I have a hard time using my smartphone on this website, though I do see New Topic now. I’ll use it next time it is needed.

And while I am posting - I will start a new thread.

Tepper says he is ā€œcontractually obligatedā€ to keep the statue up.

I’m guessing a similar contract was signed regarding the naming rights on our stadium.

Let’s hope it was only on the sale of Panthers, unless Jerry eventually saw all of this coming to light.

According to WFNZ, Tepper’s comment merely meant that it’s not his decision, it’s the city’s. He know owns the stadium, but the city owns the land. The statue is not in the stadium.

To make a long story short, I think the comment was Tepper’s way of staying out of an issue that is not his problem.

Ian Rapoport
On new #Panthers owner David Tepper being contractually obligated to keep Jerry Richardson’s statue in place: Source says it was included in the contract terms presented to all the bidders by the seller’s lawyer. … Sounds like it was non-negotiable.

So, a couple questions. What type of consequence could one expect if breaking a clause in a contract such as this? And, since the Panthers don’t actually own the land, could the city not require the statue be removed? Don’t really care either way besides the fact that I think it’s an eyesore.

Unless I’ve been mistaken for the past 23 years, the Panthers (i.e. Tepper) own the stadium and the land it sits on. The money the city gave Richardson/Panthers for upgrades did not confer any equity stake.

Recent articles I’ve read mention that the Panthers own the stadium but lease the land from the city. Perhaps I’ve read something incorrect.

I check Polaris just now and you’re right. Panthers own the facility, city leases the land to the Panthers.

It’s leased for a dollar a year I’m pretty sure.

Maybe somebody will forget to pay the dollar and the stadium becomes the property of the city since moving it would seem to be a bit much. Lease it back to the team for whatever but let the city own the land and the buildings.
