Aston’s base salary was $150,000 with some incentive opportunities. The $100,000 buyout was mentioned by David Scott in his blog, so I assume it is accurate.
Right. Incentives were for NCAA participation and academic achievements by recruited athletes. Karen will be very lucky to match that at North Texas. Amanda reportedly makes $300k at Florida and we know which one of them is the better coach. Aston could have won big here for another year or two and moved on to some VERY well paid position.
Well if Karen can’t sit out a year, I would think that for a family situation, you’d get a job in Arkansas near your Mom’s house, even if it’s Juco, Naia, or high school. Maybe I’m wrong, I want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but some people have made good arguements the other way.

clt is not pleased that a girls bball coach makes that much.
give the next coach a % of gate receipts.
Hey everyone else gets to discuss it, why can’t I?
Karens base was 165k. Incentives took it over 200k annually.

I guess what I saw was old.

Aston did have a $100,000 buyout at Charleston that has been taken care of. UNT will raise some of the money to pay for that buyout with private donations. Aston made arrangements with Charlotte to take care of the remainder of that buyout.Aston signed a five-year contract that starts out with a $150,000 base salary. All the typical perks are in there like a car and some money for doing the weekly radio show. I have yet to see a copy of the contract or read it, though.
Note the name confusion.
He should be banned just for general principle!

Hopefully Charleston didn’t get a $100,000 check in the mail.
Well, the real reason Karen went was she thought the school was in Benton, where her folks live, when it really is in Denton! Yes, with our luck the check was sent to Charleston.
Yeah, College of Charleston will probably cash the check & dare us to sue for it.
And when Judy shows up in the courtroom in Charleston, the Judge will be a CofC booster, & order us to write a check for bothering CofC.
Wow. I had no idea our womens basketball coach made that much base and if wins, keeps GPAs up and graduates players can easily make 250k. Glad our football coach will be in that ballpark!!!

Your point that some coaches are overpaid is the same as mine.
OK…someone has got to ask this question so I’ll do it…
I’m not a big business guy but paying a women’s coach that much money is dumb. Wonder what the income vs. expense works out to be for women’s bball? Can’t be that good. No wonder athletic department budgets are strapped and always begging for money.
I know about Title 9 but that is way too much money unless you are UCONN or Tenn.

I think you may have a lower expectation of what these coaches are making: Summit makes over $2mm per - http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/womensbasketball/2011-coaches-salary-database.htm
So for our coach to make $250k with bonuses is not a lot of money.

UVA signed their new Women’s B-Ball coach to a $5 Mil per deal. If I were in the UVA Athletic Club, I’d immediately stop all donations because obviously UVA Athletics has TOO MUCH MONEY!
