Kevin White new AD at Charlotte

If his fundraising abilities are as advertised, that’s how it helps with football. What would you see in the resume of an AD that eould convince you they will help with football that you aren’t seeing with white?

I was hoping for an experienced AD from a lower level. Probably high level FCS or lower G6. Just wanted someone who is used to making chicken salad out of chicken poop. Outside of that I like what White brings to the table. He seems like a very high upside hire. We needed that.

I know 2 of our finalists were sitting ADs. I think, more thsn being able to make chicken salad out if chicken shit, we need an AD who can connect to the business community so we aren’t trying to do more with less, as well as make good hires. Our nil is pretty good considering our suckiness. I’d say we’ve been making chicken shit out of chicken salad. Need to make the market we are in.

Not real sure what you’re saying, but I love chicken salad!

I’m saying, although we are not loaded, we seem to do less with more. A lot of g5s would love to have our finances, city and potential

I have learned to react to most of our hires with ā€œwait and seeā€ and I will do the same here. I am glad we finally have someone in place.

It would be nice if the times for the press conference were the same in the press release and email. Basic details. I hope white is paying attention to that

As the description says - this is an interview with Chapel Fowler who wrote the feature on Kevin White that I linked above

Just shot off an email to Charlotte AD that the bolded text below from the official announcement needs to include ā€œat Chapel Hill.ā€

White, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, where he was a member of the junior varsity basketball team. He also earned a master’s degree at Georgia State and an MBA at Kennesaw State.

I compare him to Hill since they both come from similar backgrounds, meaning working their way up the athletic dept chain. Has he hired coaches before? Nope Again, it was the same with Hill.

do I think his additional experience working at other schools is a plus, sure, but let’s face it these roles are cut and paste at most schools. They’re all doing the same thing.

where we step out and move beyond other schools is who we hire, see Indiana and Cignetti, and how do find more cash on hand. If he’s never hired anyone, then we’re back to where we started with Hill. What can he do to raise more money? That’s the wait and see part, and right now I’m cautiously pessimistic. Why? Look at the last 20 years. Basketball is garbage and football is sloooooowly moving forward. Not his fault but he’s stepping into a department in a serious funk.

Presser Thursday at 4pm.

By your assertion, should we assume you would rather we have hired an existing AD from somewhere? And if we did, who’s to say they are prepared for FBS budgets and the current mess that exists with the NCAA?

I am not disagreeing, but I think given the nature of college sports now, this guy fits the role that AD’s have become: fundraisers. It seems less about championships and winning than it does about running a business. This is unfortunate, but we cannot act like this is not the norm for now.

The way I see this: he’s from a P4 program that is rather successful, both on and off the field, and he fits the need for a fundraiser.

I’ll reserve judgment once he is settled and starts making decisions.

Axios Charlotte got it right.

He has a master’s degree from Georgia State, an MBA from Kennesaw State and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I believe I read that he was responsible for hiring the M&W tennis coaches as well as their baseball coach. Can’t seem to locate the source.

I’m sure those aren’t the coaches you want to see that he hired, but still…

Also, I’m not saying he will or won’t succeed. I think a lot of institutional change is needed for him to really succeed. I hope they allow him the leeway to make the changes he thinks need made.

I did a little research on Clemson Athletics during White’s tenure. This is not saying he is directly responsible, but I do think he played a role:

Football – 1 CFP game, 2 ACC Championships, 4 bowls

Basketball – 1 Elite Eight, 2 NCAA tourneys

MSoc – 1 NCAA Championship

WSoc – 1 College Cup Appearance, 3 NCAA tourneys

Baseball – 1 NCAA Super Regional, 1 ACC Tourney Champion, 3 NCAA Appearances

Softball – 1 ACC Champion, 3 NCAA Super Regionals, 4 NCAA appearances

Men’s Outdoor Track – 1 ACC Team Champion

Women’s Indoor Track – 1 ACC Team Champion

WGolf – 1 ACC Team Champion

All this is to say, his tenure produced some wins across disciplines in addition to the NIL fundraising done under his watch.
