Keyshawn Woods - 2014 G - signed LOI to Charlotte

I think the staff created some of the Clark problem by starting him so much so early over a sr.
Clark started and was playing about 20mpg during a long stretch of the season. What more can you truly expect as a Freshman?

If a kid wants to be the “man,” don’t you think they need to earn that? EVN hadn’t proven during his time to be that. EVN leaving was a shock to the staff and players. Clark wasn’t.
I agree. You need to earn it on the floor. Just telling you what I recall being said at the time.

Agree with Clark as well. I think starting him, then moving him to the bench was something he just never got over.

Pulling this thread back out of the ditch…

Not only is Keyshawn a pretty good player, he’s a great kid as well. Very respectful. My daughter was a varsity cheerleader at NCA and said that most of the basketball players were jerks or primadonnas. She says Keyshawn is neither.

As for Dinkins as coach, I think he would make a fine assistant and one hell of a recruiter. He has great connections.

I think Dinkins would be a great hire as an assistant.

Hmmmm

The starting situation with Clark and Braswell was very similar to this years with Lester. Both Braswell and Lester could have and perhaps should have started. But Clark certainly deserved the playing time he got. He and Clayton were described as bookends by Major, and were the only players on the team who averaged double figures in both scoring and rebounds per forty minutes for the year. I was really sold on Clark after his 14 pt 9 rebound performance against Davidson and their senior laden front court. I feel like with the two xfers and Benny the seven losses of 3 pts or less could have very easily been wins. Thats just speculation, of course, but I think we have a bright future ahead of us, with guys like Woods and Dorn coming in, and Sullivan and Braxton eligible.

clt confirms that woods can dunk a ball during a regulation game as well.

ESPN has lowered woods to a 2-star. Dorn is still listed as a 3-star.

Each has also had their ratings lowered. Woods is now a 69, Dorn now a 70.

how does a kid become the best player on the number 5 team in the country. increase his stats and get a lower rating. everything i have read about this kid screams four star if he was on the right aau team or going to the acc.

Because he committed to us and we play in CUSA

A lot of these recruiting sites catch the top players, then seem to rely heavily on who gets offered to rate the next tier guys. If Woods was still getting offers now, he’d probably have gotten some higher profile ones and the recruiting sites would adjust accordingly.

They might be right about Woods, but I agree that he seems to be a big time player given what he’s been doing against very good competition.

While I really do hope I am wrong on this, a small part of me wonders if our recent performance as weighed on their rankings. Not sure sites like ESPN just don’t look at how a team is doing and decide to raise or lower a profile based on the team they are going to. Hope not, or its a heck of a way to get stuck in a virtuless cycle.

This has been happening since they started ranking players. Countless times a 3 or 4 star becomes a 2 or 3 when they sign with us or comparable programs. Its all about hype and spin and expectations and realities. We are not “supposed” to land top tier talent, so “we dont.” Same thing used to happen to butler, vcu, wich state. But now they are more than flashes in the pan, which means espn will “allow” them to land 3 and 4 stars. This isn’t tinfoil hat stuff. Espn is a self serving hype machine and thats it.

Couldn’t agree more on the initial signing. That def happens. However this is ESPN changing his rankings mid season. He was a 3 star like two weeks ago. Now he is all of a sudden a 2 star. So I was wondering if ESPN just looked at him and Dorn, then looked at our recent performance and just wen “Ewww Charlotte is bad. 2 three stars? Dosen’t seem right. How about 1 three star and 1 two star? There much better!”

I’d assume that whoever is compiling these rankings for espn hasn’t seen woods play 1 minute of basketball. I’d be surprised if they saw any high school players in NC, really.

Honestly wouldn’t surprise me.

I was reading an article by Langston Wertz a few weeks ago about Woods and he said he thought Woods has quietly become the best player in the state and one of the recruiting analysts/scouts he was discussing Woods with agreed.

Looking at Woods’ stats and reading about his games, he seems to be the complete package. Hopefully his game translates to the college level immediately. We’ll need him.

Well, I think what he said is that he was “The best player on the best team in the state”. Meaning Northside was the best team and Woods the best player on it (over St Joes recruit, Demery). I think he clearly stated Pinson, who’s going to Chapel Hill is the best player in the state.

Still pretty impressive.
